    The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in the Department of Physiology and Pathology. We seek a student-centered individual with a passion for teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in clinical pathology and/or pathology teaching at a university, graduate school or medical school level. Applicants should be able to teach in one or more content areas across our systems-based curriculum, and have interest or experience in online instruction as well as active teaching and learning modalities. Evidence of scholarship and mentoring, with a strong record of collaboration, publication and productivity, is also preferred in prospective candidates.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Instruct first- and second-year osteopathic medical students.
    • Develop board-style (COMLEX/USMLE) exam questions.
    • Participate in student interviews, advising, and mentoring.
    • Contribute to curricular development, implementation, and assessment.
    • Provide service to the institution, the community, and your profession.
    • Engage in scholarly activities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Specific Faculty Responsibilities:

    • Devote a majority of faculty effort (typically 60-70% time) to delivering instruction in the first and second year osteopathic medical student curriculum.
    • Work collaboratively with other faculty members to advance the integrated and interdisciplinary osteopathic medical curriculum.
    • Supervise, advise, mentor, and evaluate osteopathic medical students as they perform in academic, scholarly, leadership, or professional settings.
    • Develop, prepare, deliver, and evaluate educational materials.
    • Serve on departmental and institutional committees and task forces, and contribute to community and professional service.
    • Participate in scientific, educational, community-based, or other types of research and/or scholarship.
    •  Consistently demonstrate and model professionalism as defined by the Burrell College declaration of faculty professionalism and responsibility.

    Burrell faculty appointments follow a 12-month calendar. This is a full-time, fully-funded position but applicants may negotiate for an alternative level of commitment, not less than 50% time, if desired. The start date for this position is flexible; the position will remain open until filled but review of applications will begin immediately. The hired individual will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Physiology and Pathology. Burrell offers a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with appointed faculty rank, qualifications, and experience.

    Applicants must currently be authorized to lawfully work in the United States on a full-time basis.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

    • D.O./M.D. or equivalent degree, or Ph.D. in Pathology.
    • Commitment to teaching pathology at the pre-clinical level.
    • Demonstrated contributions in teaching, research or scholarly activity, and service, with continued growth potential in these areas.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with curriculum development and implementation at the university, graduate, or medical school level.
    • Board certified or eligible in Pathology.
    • Experience in teaching pathology or pathophysiology in clinical context.
    • Current or prior experience working directly with patient samples.
    • Experience with online instruction and/or active learning approaches; knowledge of educational theories.
    • Evidence of scholarly activity with a record of publication/dissemination and productivity.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
    • Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of Learning Management Systems and Microsoft Office.
