Engineering Technician - Materials Laboratory

  • The Engineering Technician for the Materials Laboratory provides technical assistance to the engineers with design, build-up, assembly, instrumentation, and test execution of customer qualification programs, internal research and development (R&D) efforts and experimental evaluation of advanced technology.
      
    Essential Responsibilities

    The Metcut Research Inc.is responsible for providing customer data for both Research and Development and Qualification runoff programs. These tasks along with experimental evaluation of materials and their performance are completed in support of numerous industries including Aerospace, Land Transportation, Oil and Gas and many others.

    In the role of Technician, you will be responsible to work with engineers in component test evaluation efforts with core responsibilities to include:

    Description of Duties: 

    Under general supervision, performs both routine and component testing to support total lab operations.

    • Performs instrumentation and testing of a mix of standard and non-routine test/metallurgical specimens.
    • Performs test data processing utilizing MS Word and MS Excel.
    • Performs calculations, recording, and verifying of metallographic standards.
    • Calibrates and sets-up standardized material/metallographic testing stations.
    • Maintains lab support equipment and work areas, repairing defective equipment as needed.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • High school diploma
    • 5 years of metallographic experience
    • Ability to perform advanced math calculations
    • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office
    • Knowledge of use of metallurgical and inspection microscopes, familiarity with metallurgical laboratory
    • Ability to pay meticulous attention to all aspects of a situation or task, regardless of significance
    • Possess good interpersonal skills, good teamwork as well as able to work independently with minimum supervision
    • Standing/sitting time ration is 80/20, respectively
    • Maximum weightlifting requirement is 50 lbs.

    Desired Characteristics

    • An associate degree in a technical and/or relevant test or engineering experience is a plus.
    • Previous experience in metallographic sample preparation and evaluation.

    This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. We will require proof of status prior to employment.
