Assistant/Associate Professor of Education

  • Summary Description:  The Assistant/Associate Professor of Education is a full-time, benefit eligible position reporting to the Director of Teacher Education.  This role is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Education, Teacher Education, and other areas; serving on committees; and advising students in the Education Department. At Warner Pacific University, the Education Department is designed primarily to serve students preparing for a teaching license in the State of Oregon.

    Primary Job Duties:
    • Develop curriculum related to area of expertise;
    • Teach assigned courses;
    • Articulate and model current best practices in teaching;
    • Advise and mentor students;
    • Scholarly activities, including academic research publications in peer-reviewed journals and other publications;
    • Serve on faculty and institutional committees as assigned;
    • Engage in instructional improvement, research, and professional development and improvement activities;
    • Communicate course progress to students in a timely manner;
    • Engage in scholarly activity in education, literacy, language development, or closely related discipline;
    • Actively participate in recruitment and retention of students;
    • Work collegially with faculty, staff, and students;
    • Understand and promote the mission, values, and core themes of Warner Pacific University;
    • Exhibit excellent communication skills in all interactions with faculty, staff, and students;
    • Support and contribute to the implementation of the University Strategic Plan;
    • Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities;
    • Adhere to University policies and procedures;
    • Demonstrate commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding the mission of the University and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement;

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or closely related discipline in Reading (A.B.D. will be considered);
    • A minimum of three years teaching at the elementary level;
    • University teaching experience in relevant curriculum;
    • Must be eligible for a teaching license in the State of Oregon;
    • Commitment to equity for historically marginalized communities.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • A reading endorsement;
    • An ESOL endorsement;
    • A Special Education endorsement;
    • Experience with urban education;
    • Experience using technology in the P-12 classroom;
    • Experience working with diverse populations;
    • Ability to educate and mentor adult learners as well as traditional students;
    • Evidence of research and or grant-writing experience;
    • Experience with program review, assessment, and accreditation.
