Alabama State University, Academic Affairs, Levi Watkins Library and Learning Center, invites application the position of Education Librarian, Assistant Professor.
This position provides for the vision, leadership, publicity and overall management of professional reference services to the College of Education through approved goals and objectives.
This position reports to Associate Coordinator of Research, Instruction, & Engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Serves as a liaison to departments in the College of Education (COE)
Manages and maintains collections housed in the Curriculum Materials Center (CMC)
Prepares assessment, compliance, and accreditation reports as required by the administration of the Library, the COE, and the University
Supervises student workers as appropriate
Maintains accurate, up-to-date acquisitions and user statistics for the COE and the CMC
Handles general and in-depth reference questions at the Information Desk and via virtual reference
Guides faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of library services and resources by using an array of resources in electronic and print formatsPromotes faculty and student understanding of contemporary scholarly communication issues and practices
Provides ongoing evaluation of information resources for the continuous improvement of collections and services
Conducts information literacy sessions and workshops
Prepares promotional publications on library resources and services to market library resources and services in the area of education
Reviews selection aids in order to select appropriate resources keep the collection current and relevant
Maintains education-related serials, reference, and circulating book collections.
Collects and analyzes data from surveys to enhance collection development and user services
Collaborates with the Associate Coordinator of Research, Instruction, and Engagement in the creation and maintenance of LibGuides for education-related courses
Maintains a departmental procedural manual
Reads and maintains awareness of current developments and trends in the field of Alabama education, leadership, policy and law
Attends various professional meetings and conferences
Serves on various library teams, and participates and carries out assignments for committees and departmental meetings.
Works at the Information Desk as scheduled to provide and to maintain awareness of evolving user needs.
Attends University functions such as annual faculty meetings, commencement, and convocations.
As a tenure-track library faculty member, engages in scholarly activities, provides services to the University, the community, and the profession in accordance with the job description, the Library, and the University’s standards for annual performance review, promotion and tenure.
Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor in support of the Library’s mission.
An ALA accredited MLS with a second master's in education or an associated academic discipline, 5 years of supervisory experience, experience with Voyager, WorldCat Discovery, stream services and library instruction.
It is to be noted that for the purpose of continuous improvement of faculty qualifications as faulty members complete advanced degrees, certifications, licenses, etc.
the faculty member will send official documentation, within 45 days of hire, to the Office of Human Resources, and the credentialing file in Academic Affairs.
Required Knowledge and Skills :
Knowledge of bibliographic methods and techniques
Experience in innovative applications to deliver information resources and instructionalservices
Ability to work effectively with a diverse environment
Ability to meet the requirements for faculty tenure / promotion with a record of scholarly accomplishments and professional service
Considerable interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge and ability to utilize library technologies with advanced computer skills
Knowledge of education, leadership, policy, and law subject areas
Knowledge of virtual reference services to distance education students
