The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education starting August 5, 2024. Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Department Specific Essential Job Functions
The Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Central Oklahoma, as a metropolitan institution serving a diverse student body, has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education through transformative learning and research. The department is seeking a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor in mathematics education who is committed to innovative and inclusive teaching and collaborative student-centered research. Duties include teaching day/evening classes, graduate/undergraduate courses, scholarly activities, and service. In addition, the successful candidate will serve as the Program Coordinator for Secondary Mathematics Education. These duties include being a member of the Teacher Education Faculty, the Teacher Education Council, the Program Coordinators Committee, and other committees as assigned. The program coordinator serves as an advisor to the secondary mathematics education students, interviews prospective students for admission into the program, and meets with student teachers. The program coordinator compiles data and prepares reports concerning the program including an assessment review to retain accreditation. Ten hours of public-school service are required each year. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Qualifications/Experience Required
An earned doctorate degree in Mathematics Education or related field awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). In addition, three years of teaching K–12 as well as some University teaching experience is required. ABD applicants will be considered if conferral is expected by August 1, 2024. **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position will change to TT-Instructor.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Previous postdoctoral experience and/or a strong publication record.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and staff. Reports to the Chair of the Department and the Dean of the College.
