Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Music typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field.       Music teacher grades K-2.

      SALARY: minimum $40,000 pay rate dependent on experience

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      1. Appropriate Colorado Department of Education certification.

      2. BA with music endorsement.

      3. Ability to sing

      4. Basic knowledge of instrumentals.

      POSITION GOAL:

      To develop in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of the general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

      PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Inspire wonder and joy for learning and build appropriate relationships for life-long learning.

      2. Teach skills in music appreciation, explorations in introductory vocal and instrumental music (i.e. violin, ukulele, recorder, etc), to primary elementary students. Use courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.

      3. Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

      4. Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time, so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

      5. Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

      6. Use repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.

      7. Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.

      8. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly and productive environment during practice, group rehearsals and musical performances.

      9. Evaluate each student's musical growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group.

      10. Plan, rehearse and direct students in musical programs for school and community. Apply knowledge of district procedures and limitations set on performances.

      11. Select and requisition books, musical instruments and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.

      12. Communicate with parents on student progress.

      13. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.

      14. Cooperate with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies and civic functions.

      15. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.

      16. Participate in curriculum and other development programs.

      17. Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.

      18. Maintain professional competence through professional development provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.

      19. Provide direction, supervision, and evaluation of paraprofessional as directed.

      20. Comply with School Board policies and all state and federal rules and regulations.

      Sterling is located in Logan County in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the front range (I-25 corridor).
