    Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate (SL-2)

    Salary: $50,000 - $60,000, (at 90% of full-time)

    The individual hired for this position will provide instructional support in three areas: 1) the pharmacy technician training program (60%), 2) the MS/PhD/PharmD programs (20%) and 3) the TRUST program (20)%. The individual will be responsible for assisting with designing, implementing, delivering, and assessing the micro- credential program. They must be well-versed in pharmaceutical principles, medication dispensing, regulatory compliance and patient safety.

    The Rural and Underserved Service Track (TRUST) is 2-year, interprofessional, co-curricular program, for students enrolled in Binghamton University (School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Social Work, Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and Division of Public Health) or SUNY Upstate Medical University (Norton College of Medicine). Currently, students participate in 8 learning retreats and 10 service-learning activities over the course of two years in a micro-credentialed program. There are approximately 80 scholars currently enrolled in the program, with representation from each discipline. The program aims to expand to other regional healthcare professionals with an asynchronous hybrid training platform in the upcoming years. The individual hired for this position will aid in the coordination and documentation of components of the TRUST program (retreats and service activities), troubleshoot and direct student questions, track student requirements, and collect and analyze program evaluations and metrics.

    Our MS and PhD programs in Pharm Sciences launched in Fall of 2022 and offer didactic and laboratory coursework leading to careers in academic or industry research and beyond. The MS program may enroll up to 15 new students and the PhD program up to 7 new PhD students each year.

    This position is a part-time position (90% FTE).

    Essential Duties:

    Pharmacy Technician Micro-Credential Program

    • Develop a Micro credential Training Program: Create training materials, curricula, and lesson plans to educate pharmacy technician learners on topics such as pharmaceutical calculations, medication dosage forms, drug interactions, and pharmacy operations.
    • Assist with Student Recruitment and Admissions: Assist Admissions and Student Affairs division with learner recruitment and admissions.
    • Deliver Training: Conduct training sessions and hands-on demonstrations for pharmacy technician learners.
    • Compliance and Regulations: Ensure that the training aligns with ACPE, American Society of Health- System Pharmacist (ASHP), and New York State pharmacy technician licensure requirements such that the learner is eligible to take and pass a national pharmacy technician certification examination.
    • Pharmacy Technology: Instruct pharmacy technician learners on the proper use of pharmacy software, automation, and technology systems.
    • Medication Management: Teach medication dispensing procedures, including prescription processing, medication preparation, and labeling.
    • Patient Interaction: Train pharmacy technician learners in effective communication and customer service skills, emphasizing patient interaction and confidentiality.
    • Clinical Knowledge: Provide instruction on basic clinical knowledge, such as disease states, drug classifications, and pharmaceutical compounding.
    • Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the performance of pharmacy technician learners through assessments, quizzes, and practical exams to ensure they meet training objectives.
    • Documentation: Maintain records of training activities, attendance, and performance assessment for compliance and reporting purposes.
    • Feedback and Support: Offer constructive feedback, mentorship, and support to pharmacy technician learners to help them improve their skills and knowledge.
    • Program Evaluation: Track student completion of program and micro-credential requirements, and compile student surveys and evaluations into a database for analysis.
    • Assessment: Assist with program assessment and accreditation processes.

    TRUST Program

    • Program Management: Oversee an asynchronous hybrid training platform for the TRUST program for regional healthcare professionals; implement regional service activities; facilitate the logistics of learning retreats.
    • Communication: Maintenance of the TRUST email account, including troubleshooting student inquiries and directing questions to faculty as needed. Coordination of program events with faculty, students, and community partners.

    MS/PhD/PharmD Programs

    • Student Recruitment: Assist with new student recruitment efforts.
    • Student Records: Perform maintenance of student records using Degree Works. Work with faculty and department leadership as needed to run reports and perform data analysis of student records.
    • Student Progression: Work with the Office of Student Affairs Office and faculty to monitor student progression.
    • Alumni Outreach: Maintain current contacts for alumni and help to facilitate connections between faculty/students and alumni.
    • Internships and Scholarships: Help to identify and publicize internship and scholarship opportunities for MS/PhD students.
    • Assist with instruction: Provide instructional support for skills labs.

    Job Requirements:
    • Associate's degree (or higher)
    • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential with relevant state licensing OR licensed pharmacist (RPh)
    • Minimum of 7 years prior experience as a pharmacy technician
    • Strong understanding of pharmacy operations
    • Prior experience training/teaching other pharmacy technicians
    • Availability to work some evenings and weekends

    Preferred:

    • Self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple projects once trained
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Proficiency in pharmacy software and technology
    • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
