Assoc. Professor - Philosophy teaches courses in the discipline area of philosophy. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Assoc. Professor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     Faculty: Humanities/Religion/Philosophy

    Positions: Two (2)

    Locations: Clearwater Campus (1 position) and St.Pete Gibbs/Downtown (1 position)

    Minimum required qualifications:

    • Master's degree in master's degree in Religion and/or Philosophy. In addition to a master's degree, applicants must credential to teach:

    (1) Introduction to Humanities, which encompasses a variety of disciplines across the visual, performing, and literary arts, and

    (2) Introduction to World Religions, or Introduction to Philosophy.

    • Your cover letter should specify, using the credentialing information below, how you will credential to teach both Intro to World Humanities and Intro to Philosophy/Religion (which must include at least 18 graduate credit hours each in both distinct areas of PHI and REL).
    • Ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience through college service, teaching, and public engagement.
    • Applicant must demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.     (1) Curriculum vitae,

    (2) A one-page teaching philosophy statement, and

    (3) An unofficial copy of all graduate level coursework.

    • A degree in Humanities (or related discipline) with coursework which will enable the applicant to credential to teach both Humanities, Religion and/or Philosophy courses.
    • Teaching experience in Introduction to Humanities, which encompasses a variety of disciplines across the visual, performing, and literary arts.
    • Documented community or state college teaching experience.
    • Experience teaching in traditional, asynchronous online, and live online environments.
    • Prefer applicants with: (1) familiarity with various teaching methodologies /practices, (2) the ability to develop activities that enhance and expand classroom instruction, (3) a passion for student learning.
    • Demonstrated commitment to an inclusive and rigorous learning environment.
    • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and people skills.
    • Demonstrated experience designing curriculum and courses.
    • Canvas (LMS) experience preferred.
    • Quality Matters Certification preferred.

    Expectations:

    • Teach up to five (5) Face-to-Face (F2F) courses each semester Fall & Spring and (2) F2F courses in Summer 15-15-0 contract.
    • The expected start date for the position is August 2024.
    • The successful candidate will be expected to participate in course development and program assessment.
    • Provide support to the Division of Fine Arts and Humanities.

    Humanities

    1. Master's degree in Humanities

    1. At least 18 graduate semester hours in Philosophy and/or Religion

    • Serves the college through any of the following: (a) committee membership, (b) curriculum development, (c) development of innovative instruction, (d) sponsorship of student organizations, (e) representation of the college in professionally related community activities, and (f) special projects

    • Maintains currency in teaching field(s) through professional development and scholarly activities
    • Demonstrates a professional, cooperative, and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues, and staff
