Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Physics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Assistant Professor of Physics Experimental Research

  • Overview

    The Utah State University Department of Physics invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in experimental physics. Current activities include atmospheric and space physics, physics of materials in extreme environments, quantum devices, and photonics (link). This is an academic year (nine-month), tenure-track position. The relative weights assigned to domains of responsibility are 50% in research or creative endeavors, 40% in teaching, and 10% in service. A competitive package is available to support establishing an active research laboratory. Expectations of the position include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring and funding student research, establishing and maintaining a funded research program, and regularly publishing scientific results.

     

    The estimated start date for this position is August 1, 2024.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities will include experimental physics research, pursuing internal and external research funding, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, teaching and service. Along with other duties as assigned by the Department Head.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualification:

    • Successful candidates must have completed a PhD in physics or a related field as of the employment date.

    Preferred Qualification:

    • Preference will be given to applicants who show promise of excellence in research and teaching, and who clearly describe how their research will strengthen current departmental activities.
