Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Physics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     Summary: 
    AIP is looking for a Proofreader to join the Physics Today team and play an essential part of the quality-control group for everything that comes out under the PT brand. The Proofreader will be responsible for a final close proofread of the content that goes out under the brand across multiple platforms and audiences, including material destined or repurposed for digital channels, the magazine, emails, and advertising and sales materials. The Proofreader will provide editorial support as needed to all Physics Today workflows and also serve as liaison to outside contributing editors. As time and opportunity allow, they may copyedit material for Physics Today, write or edit content for Physics Today, and proofread material for other content creators within AIP.

    What You’ll Do: 
    • Proofread all content for Physics Today’s distribution channels, including online, print, emails, ad and sales materials, and other destinations, correcting or marking for correction any spelling, grammatical, typographical, stylistic, or compositional errors. 
    • Assist with content tracking and auditing. 
    • Contribute to updating the Physics Today style guide. 
    • Serve as a backup for copyediting and fact-checking. 
    • Provide editorial support as needed to other Physics Today workflows. 
    • Serve as the point of content for outside contributing editors. 
    • As time and opportunity allow, proofread material for other content creators within AIP. 
    • Contribute to the general pool of content ideas. 
    • Write or edit content as assigned. 
    • Other duties as assigned. 

    What You’ll Bring: 
    • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in English, journalism, or science. 
    • At least 2 years’ proofreading or editing experience required. 
    • Some production experience preferred. 
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Acrobat, and other production software. 
    • Familiarity with Chicago style a plus. 
    • Familiarity with content management systems a plus. 
    • Excellent proofreading ability. 
    • Excellent command of English spelling and grammar. 
    • Meticulous attention to detail. 
    • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. 
    • Ability to meet deadlines. 
    • Strong communication and organizational skills.
