    General Statement of Duties

    This position shares responsibilities within the agency to supervise and oversee the administration of programs in the Social Services Division of the Polk County Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) Division of Social Services. Supervision includes orientation and training of new staff, in-service training of existing staff, assignment of responsibilities and cases, work performance evaluations, consultation, counseling and disciplining of staff. The social work supervisor is responsible for planning long-term and short-term goals of their team in order to assure that the agency provides equitable and effective services to all clients in need of services. In planning these strategies, it is necessary to assess and evaluate the changing needs of the community, the needs of staff and to keep abreast of new and innovative service programs to meet these needs. Organization and directing workflow of the team is the responsibility of the supervisor. Cases are assigned to social workers and individual consultation is maintained with all subordinates on cases identified as problematic. Case records are reviewed for compliance with regulations and appropriateness of casework techniques. Regular group and individual conferences are held with staff for purposes of interpreting policies, regulations and reviewing unit goals and directions. The supervisor is responsible for reviewing day sheets of staff to ensure that funding sources are maximized. Regular review of case records is accomplished to review compliance with regulations, ascertaining that quantity and quality standards are maintained by staff.

    Minimum Requirements and Experience

    v Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work or related field required, Master’s preferred.

    v Eight to ten year’s experience in social work or human services supervisory or management level employment, to include client services, employee supervision, county/state social services administration and budgeting experience; depending on education level.

    v Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    v Valid driver’s license.

    v Successful pre-employment drug screen.

    v Successful criminal Background check.

    Physical Requirements

    The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, driving, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
