Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.   • Job Title: Adjunct Instructor of Sociology

    Campus Location: Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

    Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to develop and teach courses in the field of sociology.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Teach in-person, virtual, and web-based courses. 
    • Prepare course syllabi, course materials, evaluate student learning, and maintain class records. 
    • Participate in curriculum development, student recruiting, advising, placement, and division/departmental meetings. 
    • Complete goals and objectives for the individual, the department/division, and the college. 
    • Complete educational outcome measures and academic reporting as required. 
    • May perform other duties as assigned. 

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Sociology, or a Master’s degree in a related field plus 18 graduate hours of Sociology credit.
    • Understanding and acceptance of the comprehensive community college philosophy.
    • Stated willingness to teach at multiple locations including off campus sites and local high schools.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Earned Doctorate in Sociology with a background in using information technology techniques for undergraduate sociology students.
    • Experience teaching sociology.
    • Experience teaching dual enrollment courses.

    Leadership & Supervisory: This position has no supervisory responsibilities but is expected to participate as part of a team in conjunction with other faculty and as a member of the Behavioral and Social Sciences division.

    Environment & Working Conditions: Office environment is temperature controlled with occasional fluctuations, well lit, and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions. This position requires travel and teaching in the high schools. Could be exposed to varying weather conditions when travelling.

    Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

    • Large amounts of time spent looking at computer monitors could lead to some eye strain, stress, or headache issues.
    • Operation of standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
    • Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
    • Travel to local areas may be required.
