Assoc. Professor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Assoc. Professor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     The position of Sociology/Social Science Instructor is Open Until Filled to create a qualified instructor pool.

    As the Part-Time Sociology/Social Science Instructor, you will be primarily responsible for teaching sociology classes for college transfer courses. In-person, evening, or offsite classes may be part of the assignment. The faculty members of Umpqua Community College are committed to facilitating learning using the most up to date pedagogy, technology, and discipline specific knowledge.  All faculty are responsible for teaching in all modalities and keeping current in new modalities that develop in higher education. The following responsibilities and activities are listed in order to maintain consistency in the application of expectations and alignment of job duties with evaluation and promotion procedures.

     QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required Qualifications:
    • Passion for student success
    • Innovative thinker and problem solver 
    • Master’s degree or higher in Sociology
    • Experience teaching in the classroom
    • Experience teaching online
    • Demonstrated ability to interact and effectively communicate with people
    Preferred (Not Required) Qualifications:
    • Community College classroom teaching experience
    • Dual credit teaching experience at the high school level
    • Skill in curriculum development and course revision
