    Position Description


    Louise S. McGehee School seeks an ambitious, creative, and collaborative leader to serve as the school’s Director of Admissions. The Director of Admissions plays a key role in shaping McGehee’s community through the design and execution of strong recruitment, admissions, and retention practices. The Director of Admissions is a member of the Administrative Team and reports to the Associate Head of School for Enrollment and Strategic Marketing.


    Key Functions/Responsibilities

    • Assist in developing and implementing a strategy for admissions including long term enrollment objectives and an annual action plan to meet admission and retention goals
    • Oversee the admissions process including outreach to potential families, developing and maintaining relationships with applicant families throughout the admissions process, and managing the retention of current families
    • Engage local preschools, feeder schools, and community organizations to promote admissions
    • Plan, participate, and represent the school at recruitment events including open houses, school fairs, and other outreach opportunities
    • Develop strong relationships with potential and current parents, staff, and faculty of the school as well as leaders in key local organizations and feeder schools
    • Activate the school community—staff, faculty, alumni, parents—in support of the admission process
    • Develop the school’s inquiry database and manage the relationship with these potential families; maintain regular contact helping to keep these families connected
    • Coordinate the assessment of candidates based upon established criteria for admissions
    • Manage the re-enrollment process including the retention of current families
    • Work with the Associate Head of School and the Director of Communications and Marketing to develop and implement targeted communications in order to build and expand relationships with all constituencies that contribute to the School’s success
    • Provide regular updates to Associate Head of School, Head of School, and Board of Trustees on key admissions metrics

    Requirements

    Qualifications/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
    • Experience working in independent school admissions for at least three years
    • Teaching experience preferred, ideally in an independent school
    • Team player with high energy and strength in developing and building relationships
    • Passionate about education and children
    • Strong writer and communicator; comfortable presenting to diverse audiences
    • Organized and detail oriented individual who can design and implement plans that align with the school’s strategic goals


    Physical Requirements and Work Environment

    • Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate.
    • Regularly uses close and distance vision, including working at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
    • Frequently required to move around the office/classroom; works at a desk for extended periods of time. 
    • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff and community members. 
    • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
    • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop,to reach, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
