    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Associate Director of Transfer Admissions manages all aspects of the undergraduate transfer admission and recruitment process, with a concentrated focus on increasing the market share of transfer students. The associate director evaluates the market and initiates strategies to increase Duquesne's undergraduate transfer student enrollment and retention, which can assist the University with its goal to increase net tuition revenue. The associate director also provides leadership to the assistant director of transfer admissions in conjunction with the Sr. Director of Admissions and Recruitment. The associate director will oversee the travel schedule and strategic initiatives for transfer recruitment.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Spearhead the recruitment and enrollment of transfer students by developing and implementing an effective transfer student recruitment and marketing plan that meets the strategic enrollment goals of the university. Analyze data to determine which recruitment tactics and strategies are effective and which are not while creating new tactics to open and reach new markets.
    Through direct territory management and supervision of the assistant director of transfer admission, recruit undergraduate transfer students to achieve enrollment objectives: 
    Make recommendations to improve recruitment tactics.

    Determine the best next contact for each of the hot prospects in the territory. This involves regular use of the arsenal, which comprises both printed and web information collected for this purpose and members of the campus community - i.e., faculty, alumni, current students, coaches and parents of current students. Heavy use of outgoing contacts via phone, email, IM, etc. to cultivate, engage, grade, persuade and close prospective transfer students. Always qualifies conversation and generates next steps (application, enrollment deposit, FAFSA, housing application, registration, etc.).

    Lead group information sessions and also meets one-on-one with parents and prospective transfer students to provide information and assist in the application process; give campus tours.
    Cultivate relationships with alumni, college counselors/advisors and other constituents in the territory to assist with the recruitment process. Work with counselors and/or advisors at targeted two-year colleges, as well as faculty in specific majors at those colleges in order to develop strong relationships with each college.

    Evaluate admissions applications and related admission and scholarship decisions. Manage all transfer and re-admit applications and serve as liaison to school(s) or program(s). Make acceptance and financial aid packaging/depth sounding calls.

    Manage lead populations entry into Slate from college fairs, college visits, individual and group visits.

    Report to senior enrollment management leadership regarding the status of application review in assigned territory, school/program(s).
    Build strategic partnerships with transfer counselors and other staff as appropriate at community colleges. Work with community colleges and other higher education institutions to establish articulation agreements. Identify new opportunities for competitive academic plans.

    Establish and maintain process with Registrar, Financial Aid, Advising, and School-Based Enrollment Staff for transfer credit evaluations, degree audit reviews, and enrollment advising.

    Serve as a transfer credit evaluation and enrollment advising resource, providing an estimated assessment of educational credits in compliance with degree requirements.

    Represent the university at on- and off-campus admissions events and programs, travel to college fairs and other recruitment events, and conduct group information sessions. Create and present admissions presentations to internal and external constituents and for transfer-student-specific recruitment events. Collaborate with campus partners, such as school-based enrollment staff and other enrollment-related teams, as it pertains to transfer recruitment initiatives.

    Develop orientation and retention efforts for transfer students. Assist in planning and executing a shared admissions budget for programs, events, etc. Analyzes the effectiveness of recruitment events to ensure that they both support the recruitment and enrollment goals of the university and are an effective and efficient use of financial resources.

    Coach and mentor, the assistant director of transfer admission. Train admissions office to serve transfer students.

    Performs other related duties as assigned in support of a dynamic, goal-oriented team.

    Travel is required 25% of the time.

    Completes other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Guides work of others who perform the same work. May organize, set priorities, schedule and review work, but has no responsibility to hire, terminate, reviewing performance or make pay decisions.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in business, education or communication from an accredited institution and 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience.

    Position requires 5-8 years of progressive managerial admissions/enrollment experience in higher education.

    Previous supervisory experience required.

    Current valid PA Driver’s license in good standing.

    Preferred qualifications:

    Master’s degree in business, education or communication from an accredited institution.

    Experience with creating and implementing transfer recruitment strategies, two-year college articulation agreements and presenting to internal and external constituents.

    Strong technology skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Banner, Slate, social media and integrated database.

    Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    Knowledge of student recruitment and college admissions and targeted recruitment programs.

    Must become knowledgeable about all aspects of Duquesne University including academic programs, campus events and activities, orientation, athletics, housing, financial aid, billing, college policy, and important dates.

     Demonstrated planning and organizational skills to accommodate multiple priorities.

     Exceptional leadership, customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

     Effective public speaking and presentation skills.

     Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize work.

     Ability to think strategically and work in a diverse environment both independently and as part of a team.

     Ability to lift prospective student marketing materials (~30 pounds) and travel independently.

     Ability to maintain a high energy level with an enthusiastic, positive approach creating an excellent rapport with prospective students and their parents, team members and other departments within the University community.

     Dedicated to customer service and to the educational development of students.

     Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse populations, including students, faculty, scholars, and staff with sensitivity to the need of each individual to be treated with dignity and respect as it relates to diversity in general and the Mission of the University specifically.

     Professional demeanor with the ability to deal with people in a courteous and tactful fashion regardless of circumstances.

     Ability to work additional hours and weekends during peak application receipt and processing periods.

     Knowledge and understanding of federal, states, and agency-accrediting rules and regulations as they pertain to higher education.
