    FSLA Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)

    Work Schedule: Part-time (up to 25 hours per week), Monday – Sunday. Shifts will generally be in the 4.5 to 7.5 hour range.

    Starting Pay: $14.50/hour

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a team-oriented individual who will thrive in a fast-paced environment and who is well suited to working collaboratively with staff. This person should be a friendly, passionate professional with experience in retail sales and customer service. The Retail/Admissions Associate is responsible for greeting guests, answering questions, checking-in visitors, answering the phone, selling tickets and memberships, and merchandise sales. This position requires work on weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Welcome all guests into the museum.
    • Ensure excellent retail and museum experiences for our guests.
    • Open and close the front desk and gift shop (in conjunction with Manager of Guest Experiences).
    • Help with data entry for processing visitor data and retail sales.
    • Check-in Field Trips and Group Visits.
    • Maintain a clean, uncluttered front desk area to create a welcoming first impression.
    • Support the Associate Director of Guest Experiences with day-to-day operation of the gift shop.
    • Process sales transactions using the POS (point-of-sale) system, currently Altru.
    • Organize, display, and replenish merchandise in the gift shop.
    • Maintain the visual look of the store through cleaning and merchandising.
    • Understand, and speak to, the philosophy of the gift shop and the mission of the organization.
    • Become familiar with the products/titles sold in the gift shop.
    • Be informed about daily museum programming and upcoming events.
    • Encourage membership sales to guests by highlighting features & benefits.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Great people and customer service skills.
    • Must be proactive, enthusiastic, and flexible on the job.
    • Able to work independently and prioritize tasks.
    • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Able to work effectively with a team.
    • Must be willing to be trained and certified in CPR/AED and First Aid.
    • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Spanish fluency is required.
    • Two years’ experience in a retail or hospitality environment.
    • Two years’ cash handling/POS experience.
    • Basic understanding of merchandising and inventory processes.
    • Knowledge of the educational content and value of museum exhibits and programs.
    • Enthusiasm for learning and mastering new skills on an ongoing basis.
    • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.
