REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
This position will report directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean of the College of Business and Aviation will have direct reports in the dean’s office, three academic departments, and several grant programs.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
The Dean of the College of Business and Aviation’s purpose in this job is to provide leadership on behalf of the teaching, research, and service missions of the College of Business and Aviation. This position supports faculty and staff in providing students with a quality educational experience in pursuing their professional development goals. It serves as a resource for the economic development of the Mississippi Delta.
Specific duties will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Plan and direct the instructional administration of the college.
- Manage the College of Business and Aviation budget.
- Raise private donations and grant funds.
- Represent the College of Business and Aviation and the Center for Community and Economic Development in various capacities while working with internal and external entities.
- Establish processes for setting strategic directions for student and program performance requirements and meeting community needs.
- Ensure the College of Business and Aviation meets national accreditation standards.
- Perform professional services for accrediting agencies (ACBSP and SACSCOC) to further the quality of higher education.
- Review business and aviation academic programs and capabilities, ensuring that they have the capacity to address changing market demands.
- Provide strategic leadership to address and resolve student, faculty, and staff concerns, as well as issues related to student enrollment, and others.
- Serve on the Board of Directors of community and economic agencies.
- Recruit, interview, and hire teaching professors and administrative staff.
- Supervise the Center for Community and Economic Development staff.
- Supervise the chairs for the Division of Management, Marketing, and Business Administration and the Division of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems, and Finance.
- Supervise the chair and the director of flight operations for the Department of Commercial Aviation, which employs ground classroom instructors, flight instructors, aircraft mechanics, aircraft handlers/refuelers, and a dispatcher.
- Serve as Building Manager for Broom Hall.
