Associate Dean of Business assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of business. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Business provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Business typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Business typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. The Associate Dean, in collaboration with the Dean, is responsible for the oversight and leadership of programs and activities within the School of Business and Information Technology, with an emphasis on innovation and persistence among students and faculty. This role focuses on strategy and management to ensure the school meets its academic and financial goals, including but not limited to student & faculty persistence, program relevance, quality, growth, and creating a supportive environment which provides students a clear path to graduation. The incumbent to this position is expected to lead continuous improvement, organizational change, and program expansion initiatives.
The Associate Dean selects, hires, manages performance, and supports academic department chairs, program chairs, and chairs of special projects. This includes the training and orientation of new chairs, supporting chairs in the management of their faculty and programs, and providing opportunities for chair and faculty professional development.
The Associate Dean participates in intra-school and university-wide interdisciplinary activities and initiatives. The role collaborates with curriculum and other units to assess program needs and development of courses.
