Associate Dean of Business assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of business. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Business provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Business typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Business typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Reporting to the Provost, the dean is the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the College of Business. As such, the dean is the college’s advocate and is responsible for faculty, curriculum, budgets, and fund raising. The dean has final responsibility for planning, organizing, and directing all instruction, research, and service activities in the college. The dean also has fiscal responsibility for state budgets and private foundation accounts and ensures that academic programs comply with ECU and University of North Carolina system regulations, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accrediting bodies.

    Minimum Education/Experience
    • An earned doctorate from an Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredited institution
    • Administrative experience in higher education at an AACSB accredited school
    • Experience with and commitment to AACSB accreditation
    • Exceptional credentials in teaching, scholarship/creative activities, and service sufficient for appointment as a tenured Full Professor
    • Five years of relevant experience

    License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
    None
