Associate Dean of Continuing Education assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of continuing education. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Continuing Education provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Continuing Education typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Continuing Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Located in the industry-rich Washington, D.C. region, the unit is poised to expand its well-regarded programs for education professionals into nursing, healthcare, technology, business, management, and other key areas. In addition to its slate of courses for individual enrollment, Continuing Education works with multiple strategic partners to meet workforce professional growth needs. The incoming the dean will forward existing partnerships and cultivate new partners to strategically expand programming in the region.


    Housed in Academic Affairs, the dean leads strategic continuing education initiatives, creates community lifelong learning programs, and ensures excellence and integrity in all course offerings and the student learning experience. The dean oversees day-to-day management of unit operations, including course planning and scheduling, registration, tuition and payment systems, oversight of faculty and curricula, and responding flexibly to issues that arise. The dean also works with the Office of Instructional Technology and Technology Services to ensure integrity of online course offerings, both synchronous and asynchronous, using Trinity’s learning management system Moodle. The dean reports to the provost and works in close cooperation with the senior executive staff and president. The office of the dean requires the teamwork, collaboration and personal interaction that occurs in a campus environment and cannot be achieved remotely; therefore, this is an in-person position.


    Offering approximately 300 primarily online synchronous and asynchronous courses designed for busy professionals seeking graduate-level education experiences to advance their careers and meet certification requirements, Continuing Education currently enrolls an average of 3,600 students per year. Outside of Continuing Education, Trinity enrolls about 2,000 students in its degree-granting programs in four schools: the College of Arts & Science, the School of Nursing and Health Professionals, and the School of Professional and Graduate Studies.


    Candidates must present a track record of at least five-years of full-time experience in a Continuing Education unit (or similar division) with entrepreneurial experience in developing new programs. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in education management or a related field with evidence of directly relevant professional experience. This experience will encompass course and program design, delivery, and oversight; good knowledge of Moodle or a similar LMS; proficiency with a variety of educational tools and technologies; and experience with software, data analysis and database management systems like Power Campus and Tableau.


    The candidate should demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, supervision of professional staff, and ability to conduct and utilize analysis of continuing education trends and data to inform programming. The candidate will also show synchronicity with Trinity’s educational mission and commitment to workforce development in the region.
