Teacher Associate

The assignment is anticipated One-to-One

Teacher associates are responsible for the support of students in the classroom or area that they are assigned. They are responsible to the school administration and work under the immediate direction of the teacher(s) to whom they are assigned.

The teacher associate works within the framework of the job description and assignment and makes decisions only within that framework. Teacher associates are responsible for personal care activities, student safety, and academic assistance as assigned to them.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the classroom teacher with all aspects of maintaining good discipline, reviewing with students subjects studied, and helping with the other tasks connected with classroom teaching including preparing for class activities, copying and duplicating materials as needed, putting up bulletin boards, and checking/correct papers.

• Assume recess and lunchroom duties as scheduled.

• Attend all meetings of the staff convened by the administration.

• Be knowledgeable and follow policies and procedures, in particular those dealing with confidentiality, culture, discipline, harassment, and communication.

• Carries out instructional activities to reach Individual Education Plan goals on an individual basis or within a group as planned by the teacher.

• Consult with Culture staff on teaching traditional Meskwaki values and related areas.

• Create and assist with extracurricular activities.

• Demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm when working with students.

• Demonstrates responsible behavior towards attendance requirements.

• Learn about, respect, and support Meskwaki language and culture in and out of the classroom.

• Teacher associates will promote an atmosphere of respect for all students and adults.

• Treat students in a respectful, responsible, and fair manner with due consideration to students' physical, cultural, social, and psychological development.

• Will refer all inquiries and concerns about students to the supervising teacher and/or the school administration as directed.

REQUIREMENTS:

AA degree or Paraprofessional Certification

Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

Must pass a background check in accordance with Public Law 101-647, Public Law 101-630, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.

SUPERVISION: Will be under the direct supervision of the Classroom Teacher and the Building Principal

Applicants will be required to submit to a background check and to a pre-employment drug test.
