    SUNY Oneonta invites applications for the Associate Dean of the School of Education, Human Ecology and Sports Studies in the Division of Academic Affairs. This position is a full-time, 12-month appointment.

    The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the School of Education, Human Ecology, and Sports Studies who provides overall leadership for several subunits:

    • Department of Elementary Education and Reading.
    • Department of Secondary Education.
    • Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education.
    • Department of Human Ecology (Human Development and Family Studies, Fashion and Textiles, Food Service and Restaurant Administration, Dietetics and Human Ecology).
    • Department of Health and Fitness.
    • Office of Education Advisement and Field Experiences

    The School of Education, Human Ecology, and Sports Studies (SEHESS) comprises several subunits, including the Departments of Elementary Education and Reading, Secondary Education and Educational Technology, Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education, Human Ecology (encompassing Human Development and Family Studies, Fashion and Textiles, Food Service and Restaurant Administration, Dietetics, and Human Ecology), Health and Fitness, and the Office of Education Advisement and Field Experiences. . In addition to the nine undergraduate majors, the School administers graduate programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Educational Technology, Literacy, School Counseling, and Special Education. Programs within the School are accredited by ACEND and AAQEP.

    The Associate Dean will provide assessment support for all programs in the School of SEHESS, will lead accreditation and external reporting, and is responsible for ensuring that the School maintains all accreditations. The Associate Dean will demonstrate an understanding of the complex challenges in higher education and will collaborate with faculty to create innovative solutions and programs. He/she/they is also expected to work collaboratively with University Planning and other academic units across campus to foster a culture of assessment and experiential learning within the campus community and wider community. The Associate Dean must demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence, scholarship, student success, diversity, transparency, and shared governance.

    Major responsibilities

    Academic Quality: The Associate Dean will assume a leadership role in maintaining high academic standards for the School of Education Human Ecology and Sports Studies (SEHESS). Responsibilities include support for teaching, course scheduling, curricular revisions and development, budget review, faculty development, field experiences and internships, assessment of student learning, program review, and other activities that ensure all programs in the School are on a path leading to excellence.

    Reporting to the Dean of the School, the Associate Dean will:

    • Collaborate in the development of new academic programs and majors and assist faculty with academic program development, curricular proposals, and program revisions that need to be approved by SUNY and NYSED.
    • Manage all curricular operations within the School, including the development of the academic course schedule, scheduling changes and adjustments, and inform the Dean as appropriate.
    • Participate in budget development and when appropriate, approve departmental budget items.
    • Coordinate the school-based mutual-mentoring program for new faculty.
    • Monitor SUNY and NYSED policy initiatives and changes that impact the various departments and inform faculty and the Dean as appropriate.
    • Participate in departmental, School leadership, University, SUNY, and national meetings as appropriate.
    • Participate in committees and provide service to the department, school, university, and profession.

    Assessment and Accreditation: The Associate Dean will assume a leadership role in assessment, accreditation, and program review within the SEHESS. Responsibilities will include maintenance and implementation of the assessment and data collection systems in education (AAQEP accredited) and nutrition and dietetics (ACEND accredited) as well as all annual reporting and Title II reporting.

    Reporting to the Dean of the School, the Associate Dean will:

    • Provide leadership and coordinate the implementation of all assessment processes and accreditation compliance within the SEHESS required by accrediting organizations, SUNY, state and federal education departments, and other external agencies.
    • Provide leadership on all processes related to assessment, reporting and accreditation within the SEHESS including formulating strategy for meeting accreditation and program review requirements, facilitating the collection, analysis, reporting of program data to internal departments and external agencies, and reviewing data to inform program decision-making.
    • Serve as the Federal Title II Coordinator for education departments/programs.
    • Provide leadership for examining the quality of existing departmental and program measurements and assisting in developing and validating new assessment instruments and reports findings to department/program faculty.
    • Collaborate with the Director of the Office of Education Advisement and Field Experiences (OEAFE) to ensure data are collected from P-12 partners and culminating field experiences.
    • Facilitate the work of the SL3 staff member within OEAFE allocated to accreditation, including data management, recordkeeping, and reporting.
    • Collaborate with the directors in University Planning to establish and maintains protocols for (a) connecting with alumni and employers; (b) the administration of surveys for data-collection, and (c) annual assessment reporting.

    Student Experience: The Associate Dean will provide leadership in activities that enhance the student experience, such as internships, field experiences, advising, departmental mentoring and academic support programs and other experiential learning activities.

    Reporting to the Dean of the School, the Associate Dean will:

    • Address student issues such as academic policy interpretation and clarification, and other issues impacting academic or program continuity.
    • Foster a student-centered educational environment responsive to diverse learner needs.
    • Collaborate with school leaders to implement programs that support the student experience such as peer mentoring programs, professional networking events and others.
    • Oversee approval processes for internships and education field experiences.
    • Conduct periodic meetings with external partners to solicit feedback regarding field experiences and internship programs within the SEHESS and to assess fidelity of program design and implementation.
    • Assist faculty in the recruitment of prospective students, and the support and retention of current students.
    • Conduct any additional responsibilities and duties as identified by the Dean.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Earned doctorate in education, education related field, or one of the disciplines taught in the School from a regionally accredited university.
    • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in higher education including teaching, scholarly attainment, and leadership roles.
    • Demonstrated experience with implementing assessment systems and external accreditation.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that promote collaboration and collegiality among faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department mission.

    Preferred:

    • Experience working with distance learning and online learning.
    • Proficiency in using technology, student data systems and applications in data collection, analysis, and management.
    • Knowledge of AAQEP accreditation and standards and experience with the accreditation process.
    • Experience with leading the development of new initial credential and graduate programs in educator preparation and/or development of new majors or other programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and promote positive relations internally and externally with relevant stakeholder groups (e.g., coordinate with content department chairs).
    • Experience developing innovative program designs or delivery modes (e.g., online, low residency).
    • Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.
