Associate Dean of Engineering assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of engineering. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Engineering provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Engineering typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Engineering typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. General SummaryThe Associate Dean will oversee undergraduate and graduate program planning, including collegiate curriculum planning, academic program planning, assessment, and accreditation. They will oversee the College’s research program, scholarly activities, and externally funded research. The Associate Dean oversees activities and builds relationships that enhance student enrollment, academic excellence, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, the Associate Dean may coordinate a variety of outreach activities including assisting in fundraising and developing pertinent external constituencies.
Major Duties- Facilitates faculty engaged in undergraduate and graduate program planning, including collegiate curriculum planning, academic program planning and assessment and accreditation.
- Serves as the college’s principal liaison to the university Research office and creating an environment that oversees and supports scholarly activities, externally funded research and
faculty professional development. - Develops and oversees a industry research program.
- Develops and oversees an interdisciplinary graduate program.
- Oversees activities to enhance student enrollment and retention with an emphasis on student academic excellence, equity and diversity.
- Coordinating a variety of outreach activities including assisting in fundraising and developing pertinent external constituencies.
- Assuming duties as assigned by the dean including representing the accomplishments and the needs of the college.
- Teach a minimum of one course per academic year.
Minimum Qualifications- An earned doctorate in a supporting discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated ability to compete successfully for external funds to support aviation education programs and research activities.
- A record of successful authoring of grants and a significant record of funded research and publication in the field.
- Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with external constituents.
- Proven understanding of the role of faculty and shared governance in a university setting.
- Ability to support faculty in professional development, research and other academic goals.
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of a student-centered research university.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a diverse work and learning environment.
Desired Qualifications- Aviation industry experience.
- FAA flight, maintenance, and/or dispatch certificates.
