Associate Dean of Engineering assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of engineering. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Engineering provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Engineering typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Engineering typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Responsibilities / Duties / Functions / Tasks:
    • Change over CNC mills/lathes for High-Volume production
      • Change over machine and tooling for production
      • Machine first set of parts for Quality inspection
      • Make offset adjustment based on CMM reports and hand gaging
      • Instruct and work with operator to hand the machine off to
    • Work with several machine cells in the High Volume Department
      • Take ownership of the machining and secondary processes for those cells
      • Maintain part quality through machine adjustments based on CMM reports and hand gaging
      • Maintain cell tooling and fixturing
        • Replace hydraulic fixture components as needed
        • Maintain part locators
        • Maintain and replace tooling as necessary
      • Maintain CNC G M code program and correct/ update as necessary
      • Help train new operators and work with experienced operators to maintain quality and production standards
      • Generate improvement ideas and work as a team with management and other Engineering Techs to implement them
    Qualifications
    • 3-5 year’s experience on CNC machines
    • G & M coding skills a plus
    • Self-directed and motivated
    • Strong ethics to work with management and peers as a team
    • Experience on Fanuc controls a plus
    • Ability to read and understand blueprints including a basic understanding of Geometric tolerancing
    • Ability to work in a fast past environment.
    • Must be open to working overtime.
    • Must be able to communicate/read/write in English.
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Perform typical machine shop operations.
    • Abilities that are preferred but not required
      • Experience with Mori Seki CNC controls
      • Ability to program, run, and maintain Fanuc robots
      • Able to program and run Zoller tool pre-setter machine
      • Knowledge of IATF procedures and guidelines
    Physical Requirements
    • Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and moving items
    • Responding to public address system announcements
    • Walking and standing
    • Climbing and standing on ladders
    • Kneeling and laying on concrete to work on equipment
    • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
    • Ability to see clearly even with the use of visual aids (e.g. glasses, etc.)
    Environmental Job Requirements
    • Due to forklifts and other heavy equipment traveling through the shop, temporary cracks may appear in the floor, causing an uneven walking surface
    • The shop environment can be dusty and noisy
    • Door are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes
    • Floors around work area may become slippery during wet weather conditions, or liquids such as coolants and oils from the machinery
    • May have to handle parts with sharp edges
    • Passing forklifts emit gas fumes
    • Tools, supplies, and related materials may contain hazardous materials
    • May have to occasionally work outdoors where temperatures and climate can fluctuate
    Personal Protection Equipment
    • The wearing of Safety Glasses when working on the shop floor.
    Management has the right to add or change these duties of the position at any time.
     
    Per Michigan Proposition 1, passed into law in 2019, we no longer drug test for THC.  It is however not permitted on company property.  All other illegal substances will be tested for during onboarding.
