  • JOB SUMMARY: The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine has opened a search for a Dean of the LECOM School of Podiatric Medicine.

    The Dean of the LECOM School of Podiatric Medicine will be a senior member of the Institution’s leadership team, working with the Institution’s President, Provost, other Deans, and administrative leaders to advance the Institution’s vision for excellence in teaching, research, and engagement. The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the school, reporting to the Provost on academic affairs, inter-professional education, collaborative research, clinical programs, and other related matters. The Dean of Podiatric Medicine administers all phases of the instructional programs on the campus under the direction of the provost to include faculty recommendations for employment, evaluations of faculty, class schedule development, monitoring instructional effectiveness, and other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

    DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: Associate/Assistant Deans, Faculty, and Staff of the School of Podiatric Medicine in Erie, PA.

    CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Through supervision of personnel across the Health System, ensures the following functions are carried out in an efficient and effective manner:

    • Promotes and preserves the mission of LECOM;
    • Maintains confidentiality, professional appearance, and pleasant demeanor;
    • Acts as an administrative representative for the Institution in a professional, friendly manner at all times;
    • Develops the schedule of classes for the campus in coordination with the Provost and the appropriate Dean / Faculty Member;
    • Schedules instructors to teach course offerings on the campus in coordination with the Provost and appropriate Dean;
    • Recruits instructors, gathers appropriate documentation, and submits qualifying forms to appropriate Dean;
    • Monitors student evaluations, classroom performance, and appropriate instructional standards for instructors;
    • Assists in resolving faculty and student problems related to instruction;
    • Prepares performance evaluations of adjunct instructors on the campus;
    • Assists the Deans or Provost in screening applicants for all full-time instructional positions on campus;
    • Supervises and prepares the performance evaluations for the Office Assistant/Faculty Support position(s) on the campus;
    • Responsible for monitoring the budget for instructor salaries in conjunction with the Provost;
    • Assists the Provost and/or Deans in the development of new programs, course offerings, and instructional sites affiliated with the campus;
    • Assists in the implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan in accordance with its provisions;
    • In conjunction with the Provost, responsible for assigning classes and other functions to rooms;
    • Responsible for active participation on committees as assigned;
    • Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Podiatric Medicine.
    • Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;
    • Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach; and
    • Accept other responsibilities as assigned by the Provost for the Institution’s needs.

    Minimum Requirements

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodation, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • In-depth knowledge of academics, podiatric medical education, and issues related to improving the excellence of the Institution;
    • Understanding of issues affecting access to higher education (medical) and knowledge of how these issues affect health care;

    • Ability to create, oversee, and manage work plans that result in quality productivity and completion of tasks for various departments within the Institutional organizational structure;

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to: a doctoral degree in podiatric medicine (D.P.M.) with a minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years in an academic medicine setting is required, with a track record of accomplishment in academic, scholarly, and clinical endeavors. Must have experience in podiatric medical education, administration, business management, fiscal supervision, or another area related to the field focusing on medical education. In addition, the successful candidate must have extensive experience in administration, understanding of the principles and practices required to manage an Institution, and be an individual who is a goal-oriented professional with excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, organizational, planning, and public relations skills. Administrative leadership experience in a school of podiatric medicine is strongly preferred, with a record of success in developing and retaining a strong faculty and student body. The candidate's record should demonstrate a commitment to diversity in recruiting, supporting, mentoring, and retaining faculty, staff, and students from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.
