Associate Dean of Humanities assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of humanities. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Humanities provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Humanities typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Humanities typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Humanities Teacher, Grades 6-8, to start in August 2024. Successful candidates will possess content and pedagogical expertise in the Humanities, a dedication to collaboration, and a creative and flexible approach to curriculum design and instruction. Interdisciplinary proficiency is highly desirable and preference will be given to those candidates who have the capacity to teach both History and English.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Instructional responsibility in content area(s)
    • Facilitating student lead discussions based on a Harkness model
    • Serving as an advisor for 6-12 students
    • Oversight and assessment of the development and progress of each child
    • Assessment of all student's progress in both written and verbal reports
    • Communication with parents
    • Collaborative work with colleagues on grade level, departmental and interdisciplinary faculty teams, Middle School faculty and staff, and the broader school community
    • Daily supervision of a lunch table
    • Contribution toward athletic and/or co-curricular programming, as assigned, in addition to classroom role
    • Expected to participate in the development of students outside their classrooms in typical middle school social situations like recess, the hallways, and community meetings

    Required Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree 
    • A minimum of 3-years successful classroom teaching experience with students in this age group, or demonstrated professional competency
    • Experience with inquiry-based and/or project-based learning
    • A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
    • Willingness to take on multiple roles within the school
    • Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Advanced degree in academic/research field and/or professional experience within your area of practice 
    • Demonstrated capacity and desire to teach across multiple disciplines/subject areas
    • Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students 
    • Experience as an academic advisor
    • Athletic coaching experience
    • Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative relationships with external partners/organizations in the design and implementation of learning experiences
