Associate Dean of Law assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of law. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Law provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Law typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Law typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be an Associate Dean of Law typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The School of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for Associate Dean, to begin July 1, 2024. The primary role of the associate dean in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences will be to provide assistance to the dean in the administration of the degree programs in the school.
    Applicants must be a current, tenured faculty member in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

    One of eight campuses of Indiana University, Indiana University Kokomo is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, a city with a population of about 50,000.     Basic Qualifications
    Candidates must be tenured faculty in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Candidates must possess effective leadership skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well with others.

    Responsibilities
    The primary role of the Associate Dean in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences will be to provide assistance to the dean in the administration of the degree programs in the school, primarily those duties that were performed by department chairs under the previous structure of HSS. These duties include:
    • Replace the dean when the dean is absent (thus will attend meetings, functions, administrative duties, etc. as needed). The associate dean will have the authority to sign documents on behalf of the dean when the dean is absent.
    • Assist the dean in evaluation of full-time and adjunct faculty.
    • Recruit students to HSS degree programs. This includes participating in events such as VIP days, campus visits from local schools, and various off-campus recruiting efforts as necessary.
    • Develop strategies to retain current students.
    • Assist in screening/hiring of adjuncts and review of their teaching.
    • Assist adjuncts with course and syllabus preparation and professional development.
    • Coordinate book orders for courses taught by adjunct faculty.
    • Manage paperwork for adjuncts and faculty doing overloads/internships, etc.
    • Coordinate Core Transfer Library reviews.
    • Monitor and assess HSS general education courses.
    • Work with coordinators in each of the academic areas to assist in carrying out of assessment plans and program reviews.
    • Assist the dean with mentoring/assimilation of new full-time faculty. Participate, as available, in events involving new faculty.
    • Serve as first level of review for student complaints.
    • Serve as first level of review for faculty reappointments.
    • Other reasonable duties as assigned.
