Associate Dean of Law assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of law. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Law provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Law typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Law typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and analysis on various issues
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, contracts and bankruptcy related filings
- Assist with case management and preparation for litigation
- Represent clients in court proceedings
- Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients
- Provide legal advice and guidance to clients
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex cases
- Attend meetings and hearings as required
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school plus 2-3 years of experience
- Admission to the state bar association
- Strong knowledge of legal principles and procedures
- Experience in conducting legal research and writing legal documents
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in using Westlaw or Lexis-Nexis for legal research
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
