Internal Medicine Pharmacist and PGY1 Associate Residency Program Director

    Clinical pharmacist with responsibility for providing services to the Graduate Medical Education Internal Medicine rounding teams and serving as the Pharmacy PGY1 Associate Residency Program Director. 1.0 FTE is shared between these two services.

    Position Summary: Under the oversight of the Residency Program Director (RPD) and the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Services ARPD shall be responsible for the oversight of the Pharmacy Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) program and shall work in coordination with the Hospital's Graduate Medical Education (GME) Residency Programs. Responsibilities shall include the planning and coordination of the pharmacy residency program(s) in accordance with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) criteria for residency programs, including co-chairing a pharmacy residency advisory committee, and providing services to the Graduate Medical Education Internal Medicine rounding teams. The ARPD will collaborate with Pharmacy Leadership and the GME department to provide education in pharmacotherapy and student/resident preceptor development. The ARPD will manage the training and direct activities of the pharmacy residents to assure completion of the ASHP residency objectives, coordinate pharmacy services related to the hospital's medical residency programs, represent pharmacy on appropriate drug policy and other committees within the organization, and shall appoint and develop pharmacy staff to become preceptors for the program. The individual shall possess personal characteristics necessary for successfully fulfilling the responsibilities, including good communication skills, initiative, attention to detail, flexibility, cooperation, a willingness and ability to fill in for other clinical pharmacists, and a commitment to furthering the training of others. The ARPD shall demonstrate leadership qualities and routinely serve as a role model, both intra and interdepartmentally, as well as demonstrate ongoing professionalism and contribution to the profession. They should be knowledgeable about pharmaceutical preparations; drug therapy review and evaluation; drug information sources, retrieval and interpretation; medication use evaluation; use of evidence-based protocols; adverse drug reaction reporting and evaluation; disease state management; and formulary management. This position supervises pharmacists in the PGY1 residency positions, and interacts with pharmacy staff and GME personnel. They will provide feedback regarding evaluation, skills assessment, and development of pharmacist preceptors in the program. Additional responsibilities may be determined by the RPD or Director of Pharmacy in conjunction with the GME Program Designated Institutional Official (DIO).

    ALL PHARMACISTS - Provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care primarily through providing service excellence, clinical services, distributive functions, education, and a commitment to the department's mission. They shall possess characteristics to successfully fulfill their responsibilities, including effective communication, flexibility, attention to detail, initiative, cooperation, and a high level of knowledge and skills applicable to their area of practice. They will regularly profile orders for medications, monitor patient's drug therapies, provide drug information, and initiate/modify drug therapy based on medical staff approved policies and protocols.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications
    Minimum Preferred
    EducationBachelors degree in Pharmacy (BS Pharm) from an accredited institution.Doctorate degree in Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
    Experience

    PGY1 training OR at least 3 years of acute care experience involving teaching

    Technical SkillsKnowledge of hospital based information system, reporting features, and Microsoft Office.Strong proficiency in computer literacy including but not limited to MS Office, Pharmacy clinical systems (Cerner), and Pyxis technologies
    License/CertificationCurrent Pharmacist License in the State of Florida
    Teaching certificate (or willingness to begin program in the upcoming 12 months)
    Board Certification (BCPS or BC in related Specialty Area (BCGP, BCCP,) or willing to obtain within 18 months
