The position oversees, with Academic Affairs, the core curriculum, the General Studies and Applied Arts and Sciences degrees, study abroad and student exchanges, Honors Program, and components of the undergraduate catalog, including policies and procedures. Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is a member of the Deans’ Council, and works closely with the Associate Vice President for Academic Success, transfer teams, academic deans and faculty. Working collaboratively, the dean also interacts with various teams on activities such as New Student Orientation, Hoggie Days, among others. The position serves as an important representative for TAMUK at local and state functions and committees, including those constituted by the THECB and TAMUS. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervises staff in undergraduates studies, Honors, study abroad and student exchanges, and transfer support; Engenders trust of subordinates, peers, and supervisors. Builds community for undergraduate students and faculty through various ongoing and new initiatives. Supports career development for third- and fourth-year students with faculty and departments and through collaboration with the Office of Career Engagement and Corporate Relations. Oversees or coordinates aspects of the general education core curriculum, undergraduate research initiatives and other high impact practices, and components of the undergraduate catalog, including policies and procedures; Supports the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) efforts. Oversees as program coordinator the degrees in general studies and applied arts and sciences. Works with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, deans and chairs on undergraduate academic program reviews and provides leadership and structure for faculty-led development of the undergraduate curriculum or other responses to those reviews. Works with campus leaders and faculty on relevant undergraduate policies, procedures, and rules; Oversees assigned student requests, appeals and/or grievances; Coordinates the review and approval of course substitution forms and exceptions, when assigned. Develops and implements recruitment initiatives with staff and in collaboration with the various entities such as Enrollment Management, academic deans, department chairs, and faculty, including community college partnerships such as transfer pathways and agreements. Works closely with the Registrar to ensure the currency of catalog and degree requirements to include scribing of DegreeWorks and with the Registrar and others on agreements for course sharing through Acadeum. Oversees compliance of areas to include HB2504, book adoptions and development of undergraduate Open Educational Resource (OER) initiatives. Provides support for the development and implementation of assessment for new undergraduate programs and supports continued improvements to program assessment of existing programs; Tracks broad undergraduate outcomes achievement and provides annual assessment and data reports in collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Academic Student Success. Manages fiscal resources effectively. Completes other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Terminal degree in a discipline offered by the University. An academic and research profile that supports an appointment as an associate or professor in one of the disciplines at the University. Ten years of experience in higher education, including at least four years of proven leadership experience in higher education. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work cooperatively with others. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications Use of Banner, advanced technology, and social media.
