Associate Dean of Nursing assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of nursing. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Nursing provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Nursing typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Nursing manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Associate Dean of Nursing typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The School of Nursing is seeking dynamic candidates for the position of Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives. The Associate Dean helps to develop strategies to achieve educational goals and objectives aligned with the academic mission of the school. A key player of the School’s Senior Leadership Team, this position will report to the Dean and will be responsible for the vision, leadership, and administration of all aspects of the academic portfolio, including developing faculty and staff, fiscal planning, strategic planning, and goal setting in concert with the school and university’s strategic plans. The selected candidate will have a commitment to working with a Hispanic serving institution.

    Essential Functions

    • Manage detailed implementation planning and execution of the Strategic Plan.
    • Leads cross-functional initiatives across campus, departments, schools, and university.
    • Assesses and analyzes new opportunities for alignment with institutional priorities.
    • Oversee School of Nursing policies.
    • Lead the development and continuous improvement of School-wide systems.
    • Collaborate with faculty to support development and implementation of academic programs.
    • Mentoring faculty on clinical track.
    • Develop partnerships with clinical agencies.
    • Serve as a liaison between the School and the Vice President for Academic, Faculty & Student Affairs, and Graduate School.
    • Stimulate an academic environment that values and embraces respect.
    • Work with the Vice Dean for Research and Scholarship to seek and obtain funding for School educational activities.
    • Work closely with the Office of Student Affairs to ensure that practices and policies support the academic enterprise in the School and University.
    • Work with faculty on tenure and promotion.
    • Lead program review to maximize resources and assure program excellence.
    • Act on behalf of the Dean in their absence.
    • Be the lead on faculty and staff awards.
    • Negotiate new hires.
    • Lead program review to maximize resources and assure program excellence.

    Required Education

    PhD in Nursing, Doctorate in Nursing.

    Required Experience

    • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience. Prior experience in higher education administrative experience.
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
    • Some positions may require a record of scholarship and professional achievement that would meet the criteria for appointment as a full professor with tenure.

    Required Training/Certifications

    Active and Unencumbered State of Texas RN License or the ability to obtain one at time of hire.

    Additional Qualifications Considered

    • Qualified rank as Associate Professor or full Professor.
    • Demonstrate progressive leadership responsibility.
    • Have significant experience in nursing scholarship including extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications.
