Associate Dean of Sciences assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of science. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Sciences provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Sciences typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Sciences typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Position Summary

    Reporting to the Vice Provost, School of Engineering, Technology, Mathematics, and Sciences, the Dean will coordinate academic advancement activities within the College associated with the Engineering, Computer Science, and Information Technology ( ECIT) programs, including activities related to SACSCOC accreditation, participation in college-wide planning and management activities; enhance and promote the program's instructional areas, support faculty development, seek and facilitate additional school partnerships, and develop new initiatives to meet emerging needs of the greater Dallas County region. The expected start date will be July 1, 2024.

    • Demonstrated success as a teacher and scholar in a recognized college or university.
    • Successful experience in development of and engagement with interdisciplinary programs and baccalaureate programs.
    • Demonstrated understanding of higher education policy.
    • Knowledge of relevant education laws (e.g., FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, etc.)
    • Experience in an outcome based, assessment-rich, educational, corporate, or non-profit institution.
    • Demonstrates patience and tolerance for ambiguity and change.
    • Evidence of leadership in the development of new programs that promote success and in building teamwork and a shared vision.
    • Proven successful program management experience with the ability to prioritize assignments and pay attention to detail.
    • An ethical, visible leader with the ability to develop and maintain a high level of trust and respect throughout the college and the community.
    • Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with internal/external constituents and stakeholders within the Dallas College network community including business, industry, other higher education institutions and community organizations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Principal spokesperson and advocate for the discipline.
    • Oversee academic program planning and development, curriculum administration and revision, and new program development and implementation.
    • Establishes procedures, initiatives, and programs that reflect a commitment to inclusive excellence among faculty students and staff.
    • Collaborates with Department Chairs and Faculty to determine teaching assignments in the assigned discipline.
    • Works closely with Department Chairs to foster student-centered and evidence-based faculty development that enhances teaching and learning.
    • Collaborates with Department Chairs to recruit, hire, and retain faculty consistent with the strategic and fiscal needs of the School.
    • Directs the review and program approval processes as required by the Provost's Office.
    • Effectively guides the utilization of resources and directs the budgets that support the academic programming in the discipline.
    • Works in collaboration with student services to ensure smooth operations for student affairs and career services.
    • Serves as a member and/or subject matter expert to internal entities in Dallas College and actively promotes collaboration with an array of campus and community partners. Works closely with Vice-Provost on all matters relating to institutional success, strategic planning development, and substantive revision of academic policies.
    • Responsible for consulting, planning, developing, and implementing programs/activities for the development of programs.
    • Provides leadership, guidance, and direction to various councils such as faculty and committees involved with curriculum development and program performance.
    • Prepares comprehensive analytical reports using quantitative and qualitative data as needed for senior executives and/or Board of Trustees.
    • Consults with faculty to evaluate existing activities and discuss areas of improvement for future development and growth.
    • Engages potential partners.
    • Collaborates with THECB liaison to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Responsible for bringing multiple departments/resources together with a unified brand, common policies and procedures, and a united voice with the internal and external Dallas College community network.
    • Solves problems by proactively gathering the right data from appropriate sources, probing all facts, considering other perspectives, and recommending alternatives or solutions.
    • Builds and maintains effective and constructive working relationships, partnerships, or networks of contacts with people who are, or might be, instrumental in achieving work-related goals.
    • Applies sound project management skills to produce the agreed upon deliverables on time and according to specification.
    • Researches, analyzes, and maintains information needed for instructional and/or administration purposes, prepares a variety of reports and makes presentations.
    • Provides clear verbal and written direction for academic innovation and improvement of student success outcomes by working with faculty and staff.

    • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Physical Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in relevant subject matter plus five (5) years of experience in a leadership role focused on bringing systemic change.
    • A Ph. D degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field related or Engineering or Computer Science or Information Technology is preferred.
    • Understanding of program assessment and accreditation processes/procedures.
    • Prior teaching experience as a faculty member or adjunct faculty member at an institution of higher education is required.
    • Experience in an international and/or a multilingual environment is preferred.
    • Demonstrated success in leading program development or transformation (launch of new programs, redevelopment of existing programs/schools) is also preferred.
    • An official transcript will be required.
