Associate Dean of Sciences assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of science. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Sciences provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Sciences typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Sciences typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Overview of Position:

    A Research Associate I supports the research and development projects in the vivarium. Must be highly motivated in a fast paced and diverse environment in playing an integral role in advancing the development of therapeutic treatments that will help people live longer, healthier lives. Opportunities are available to grow diverse skills and advance within different tracts (technical, managerial, or scientific) within the company. Must be motivated to work within an environment of excellence and close-knit group.

    Primary Functions:

    · Collection of animal data such as body weight any endpoint measurement or data point

    · Collection of animal specimens such as tissue samples and blood and processing of specimens for shipment to sponsor or for internal purposes.

    · Preparation of animals for procedures, including shaving, ear tagging, and other tasks as directed

    · Animal Handling for experimental procedures

    · Performance of clinical observations and humane euthanasia in rodents (mice and rats), rabbits, pigs, and dogs

    · Performance of basic systemic dosing in vivo procedures

    · Provide general group support by cleaning, general supply stocking and inventory, and sample shipping

    · Perform other duties, as assigned

    · Works closely with Project Managers and study directors to ensure all assigned studies are conducted in accordance with study protocols

    · Collection and documentation of relevant data and provide feedback to team members regarding progress of assigned projects

    · Performance of data compilation, analysis, and Final Study reporting as well as assistance with protocol drafting and budget

    · Validate and perform quality control on data input for all study specific data entry

    · Utilizing Various equipment within specific departments needed for collecting data

    · Maintain and Calibrate equipment.

    · Advanced Knowledge of department equipment and specifics needed for variability in protocols

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    · Frequently required to stoop, bend, and/or kneel to reach and move small animal cages

    · Dexterity sufficient to manipulate small animals and use a computer to document tasks and activities

    · Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

    · Must be able to lift 35lbs and work on your feet in shifts up to 4 -6 hours at a time

    · Must be able to wear proper PPE such as company provided scrubs, surgical gowns, surgical masks, Nitrile gloves, shoe covers, eye or face protection, and head covers

    · Average knowledge and proficiency on harvesting tissue and blood samples

    · Compound, vehicle or cell culture administration

    · Ability to operate independently to accomplish assigned tasks

    · Tumor implantation and tumor measurement

    · Effectively troubleshoot and solve scientific problems with supervision

    · Ability to track inventory including study supplies and study sample inventory

    · Ability to provide quality control and validation of tasks

    · Proficiency in all animal handling and dosing techniques and assist as a designated trainer

    · Ability to work independently and within a group setting

    Education and Other Requirements:

    · Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in biology or related field – if only a BSc and no experience candidate will be qualified for the Research Assistant role. Additional animal experience and certifications are subject to higher Research Technician levels.

    · Prior laboratory animal (mainly rodent) experience strongly preferred

    · Preferred one of the following: AALAS Technician Certification: (R)ALAT (Registered or Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician), (R)LAT (Registered or Laboratory Animal Technician), or (R)LATG (Registered or Laboratory Animal Technologist); New York State Veterinary Technician licensure (LVT); or an equivalent licensure or certification.

    · Additional certifications accepted: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and Certified Phlebotomy Certification (CPT)

    Physical Activities:

    · Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another, sometimes is 4-6hour shifts.

    · Ability to handle large and small research animals and work in a clean, up to specific pathogen free (SPF), environment is required.

    · Constantly communicating with others to exchange information.

    · Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

    · Medium work that includes moving objects up to 35 pounds. Environmental Conditions:

    · May need to handle to some chemicals that are potentially hazardous but all safety and personal protection equipment shall be provided.
