Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of an undergraduate program. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     COMPENSATION: $88,130.79/year DOE Benefits, Exempt Position

    SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs is responsible for working with, and assisting, the Dean of Academic Affairs through the management of daily academic operations that foster excellence in teaching and result in the success of students. The support of the Associate Dean will permit the Dean of Academic Affairs to focus attention on strategic matters such as accreditation, grants, external stakeholder relationships (e.g., MoAs, MoUs), and institutional planning.

    The Office of the Dean of Academic Affairs oversees the following divisions: Instructional Programming (Academic and Career & Technical Education), Admissions and Registration, and Institutional Research.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee Faculty and Staff, administration of for-credit and CEU courses, and management of academic and vocational education/workforce development programs.
    • Assist with faculty and staff recruitment, selection, and hiring.
    • Direct faculty and staff onboarding.
    • Supervise day-to-day work of Faculty and Staff within the Academic Affairs department; Apprise and advise the Dean on daily operations of the Academic Affairs division.
    • Coach and/or mentor Faculty and Staff; Coordinate faculty/staff professional development.
    • Monitor instructional programming.
    • Assure compliance by Academic Affairs department with institutional policies.
    • Work with Dean of Academic Affairs to review, develop, and implement instructional policies and procedures.
    • Ensure clear, frequent, and effective communication with Faculty, Staff, Students, and other institutional stakeholders.
    • Provide and prepare data, presentations, and reports as requested.
    • Collaborate with Student Services to strengthen student recruitment, advising, and retention activities.
    • Attend academic and community events, as needed.
    • Serve as Acting Dean of Academic Affairs in the absence of the Dean.
    • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.


    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Understanding of the basic function and mission of community colleges; Work-readiness and labor market orientation.
    • Minimum four years demonstrated teaching experience at the instructor level or above in a post-secondary institution – preferably at a community college.
    • Interpersonal and group leadership; Cross-cultural and intercultural communication.
    • Critical thinking and situational analysis; Comfortable with ambiguity and new situations.
    • Project management and oversight; Detail oriented; Ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines. Supervise faculty and staff, delegate tasks, provide feedback, and mitigate/mediate conflict.
    • Demonstrated management experience in a post-secondary setting.
    • Ability to travel periodically for professional meetings or development – may be in small plane to remote villages.
    • Strong English language oral and written communication skills.
    • Computer and technology skills, as needed to perform duties.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
    • Research skills (data collection, analysis, data storytelling).
    • Ability to thrive in a rural and geographically remote environment with arctic climate [Utqiaġvik lies 320 mi (510 km) north of the Arctic Circle].
    • Experience coordinating and promoting distance delivery education.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
    • Ability to travel periodically for professional meetings or development – may be in small plane to remote villages.
    • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
    • Ability to interpret and represent NSB community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.



    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE [Required]:

    • Master’s degree or above.
    • Faculty supervisory experience.
    • Academic administration experience.


     

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

    • Education, training, or credentials in and/or experience managing Vocational Education, Career & Technical Education, or Construction Trades Technology Education.
    • Valid driver’s license.

Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/month for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

    Life Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
