The UAB Student Financial Aid Office is responsible for administering federal, state, and institutional programs to fulfill federal and state requirements. Specialists provide personal counseling, information and guidance to students and parents concerning financial assistance programs. Processes updates and changes according to student and program needs for administering financial aid awards and disbursements. Conducts financial aid presentations for undergraduate and graduate program orientations as well as various UAB events.
The Financial Aid Specialist II will assist as the Student Financial Aid Office liaison for the School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, and School of Optometry. This includes being the direct point of contact, and participating in professional school interviews, orientations, and committees. Responsibilities also include processing the health professional schools scholarships and student loans.
In addition, this position coordinates the alternative student loan certification and disbursement process. Requires daily processing of reports, file transfer, posting loan deposits, and certifying loan requests from outside lenders. Works closely with other offices to ensure adequate processing and monitoring of disbursements as well as returning undisbursed funds to lenders. Counsels students and parents on all aspects of the alternative student loan process.
Various other duties include processing Title IV adjustments such as returns, loan increases/decreases, and updates to student files. This position will serve on several financial aid committees and act as one of the lead counselor to other members of the financial aid team.
Maintaining a current knowledge of federal regulations by attending regular training, conferences, and continuing communication with other aid professionals is required. Performs other duties as assigned.
(Hourly Rate: $16.50 - $19.50)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Must have excellent customer services skills and ability to multitask to handle high volume calls, student walk-ins, and emails. Preference is given to those with at least two years progressive experience processing federal financial aid in a higher education environment. Banner experience is a plus.
