SUMMARY: The Financial Aid Advisor II, under direction, processes financial aid that conforms to all Title IV regulations, as well as state and university policies, to eligible Texas A&M University-Commerce students. The Financial Aid Advisor I works in support of a work environment that requires a high level of customer service, student advocacy, and financial literacy.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (15 or less):
Reviews federal and state publications and other communications to continually recommend improvements in the financial aid processes. Assist in the development of financial aid operating forms to increase efficiency.
Assists in the collection of data and preparation of Cost of Attendance budgets.
Assists with data input and calculations for federal, state and university reporting requirements.
Performs public speaking responsibilities related to financial aid and assists at outreach events.
Responsible for data entry related to financial aid and scholarships as applicable to student financial aid.
Reviews files for general eligibility and satisfactory academic progress. Exercises professional judgement regarding student dependency status, special conditions, appeals, budget increases, etc.
Advises and counsels students regarding financial aid and scholarships, offering a high level of customer service. This includes communications via email, phone calls, virtual and in-person meetings.
Works assigned exception reports related to financial aid processing.
Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses and conferences, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Director of Financial Aid.
Contributes to the overall success of the Division of Enrollment Management and the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree is required.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years of related experience. Knowledge of work processing and spreadsheet applications is required. Effective Oral and written communication skill is required. Demonstrated Customer service skills is required.
Ability to: Multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to organize and make decisions independently. Ability to travel to high school and community college scholarship programs and other visits throughout Texas is required. Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Occasional overnight travel and evening and weekend work are required.
Licensing/Professional Certifications: None.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Other Requirements: Advisors assigned to meet with and process student athlete information, will be required to receive additional training in athletic compliance and must follow all NCAA rules and regulations.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Some experience in planning, organizing or working in higher education.
Bilingual.
Knowledge of federal, state laws, and Texas A&M University-Commerce regulations, practices and procedures pertaining to student financial aid.
Experience working with enterprise-level software systems, as well as database systems such as Ellucian's Banner, PeopleSoft, or some other type of database product utilized by institutions of higher learning.
