Associate Financial Aid Director assists in the operation of the financial aid program. Instructs students and parents on the application for loans or scholarships. Being an Associate Financial Aid Director maintains records of scholarships, grants, and other monetary assistance. Has knowledge of available private, state, and federal financial aid programs. Additionally, Associate Financial Aid Director typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the Financial Aid Director. The Associate Financial Aid Director manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be an Associate Financial Aid Director typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required. One-year financial aid and/or admissions experience; experience with computerized systems; ability to relate to students in a multicultural environment; experience with word processing (MS Word). Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills; standard office machines and computer skills.

    Training in business and/or student services. Bilingual in Spanish.

    Primary Responsibilities
    Summary
    Function: Student Financial Aid Counseling.
    Duties
    Essential: Review student eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid; assist with the management of student financial aid files; receive and process change request forms, adjust aid as requested by the student and per guidelines; assist with the reviewing of financial aid applications and packaging awards for eligible students; counsel students regarding their financial aid concerns; review applications, complete the verification process for FAFSA applications that have been selected; clear c-flags; process mail correspondence; respond to emails/voicemails/walk-ins per on-call schedule; counsel students and families; document student interaction in Banner; process R2T4s; assist with SAP process as needed; coordinate, attend and present at FAFSA nights or other events within the community; oversee the FWS program and implement the CPFWS module in Banner; assist with processing consortium agreements; maintain student records in compliance with federal regulations; keep abreast of regulations affecting financial aid and other duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions
    Usual: Office conditions. Exempt from overtime provisions. The position is Security Sensitive. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
    Special: May work extra hours during registration; some travel.

    Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

    Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas. At an elevation of 4,480 feet, and on the periphery of the Chihuahuan Desert, Alpine enjoys mild winters and cool summers.     The SRSU campuses in Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Uvalde comprise Rio Grande College. RGC offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degree programs and works closely with its partner institution, Southwest Texas Junior College, to provide a seamless transition to RGC for their students. All RGC students hold an Associate degree from an accredited institution or they have completed 42 semester credit hours of transferrable work.
