    Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid Systems, Reporting and Compliance, the Associate Director of Financial Aid oversees and manages the day to day operations of the financial aid counseling staff. They will maintain oversight of a small caseload of students, compliance and oversight of the Return of Title IV funds and verification processes, and is responsible for the accurate and timely disbursement of all Institutional financial aid funds. This position is a senior member of the financial aid leadership team and will help support management with oversight, compliance and improving processes focused on enhancing the student experience.

    Responsible for providing superb customer service consistent with the Simmons value of being student centered in all of our functions, the Associate Director will set the tone for the counseling staff in regard to work, compliance, and customer service. They will supervise the counseling staff and provide leadership for the team as well as the broader office in collaboration with the Director. They will be responsible for effective management of the counseling staff and will assume caseload responsibility in the absence of a counselor. The Associate Director will maintain contact with students and families as well as being responsible for file review, awarding, program administration and participating in recruitment activities.

    The Associate Director will be responsible for the disbursement and reconciliation of all Institutional financial aid funds between the financial aid system (PowerFaids) and the student information system (Workday). In addition, they will ensure compliance with federal regulations around both the Return of Title IV funds processing, including sign off, as well as the Federal Verification Process. This includes ongoing training for existing and new staff.

    Responsibilities

    The Associate Director will manage a team of four Financial Aid Counselors. They will be responsible for all aspects of training for the counseling staff on processes and policies, customer service, and compliance. The Associate Director will also provide leadership and work closely with the other Associate Director, and in conjunction with the Director to develop and implement strategy and maintain vision for the office.

    The Associate Director will be responsible for federal Title IV application and compliance specifically within the areas of Return of Title IV funds as well as Verification. This includes, but is not limited to, training of staff and review and signature to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations for federal, state, funds are maintained.

    The Associate Director will represent the Office of Financial Aid at undergraduate and graduate admission events. They must be able to effectively communicate the federal, state and institutional financial aid processes and philosophies to prospective students and their families as well as work individually with current students. The Associate Director will also work closely with the academic deans and student life to deal with challenging situations.

    The Associate Director will be responsible for the effective management, disbursement, and reconciliation of all Institutional financial aid funding between PowerFaids and Workday. This includes approximately $49 million in Undergraduate funding and $8.3 million in Graduate funding

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree required;

    Minimum three years work experience in a Financial Aid office having solid knowledge of federal and state financial regulation principles is strongly preferred;

    Ability to perform complex calculations; analyze situations accurately, be able to solve problems and offer solutions in order to adopt an effective course of action;

    Experience with Powerfaids, Workday, preferred;

    Demonstrated ability to clearly interpret, apply and convey rules, regulations, policies and procedures while maintaining a high level of professional courtesy;

    Experience providing excellent customer service to a diverse constituency while maintaining successful performance in a high-volume, fast pace, and confidential service environment;

    Ability to maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations;

    Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to use sound judgment for decision-making;

    Team and service-oriented and able to effectively manage time;

    Ability to work and/or travel some nights, weekends, and/or other times during peak season.
