Position Summary Basic Function: Under the direct supervision of the VP of Enrollment Management, assist students and their families in a proactive manner in securing the necessary financial assistance and tuition payment options in order to afford the Guilford experience. Assist the VP of Enrollment Management with the strategic planning and oversight of tuition discounting policies and practices to maximize net tuition revenue for the College. Must be knowledgeable about federal, state, and institutional policies and regulations in order to maximize students’ access to those resources. Specific Responsibilities: Responsible for overall administration of all student aid programs at the College; oversees a staff including, but not limited to, an Assistant Director, Financial Aid Counselors, and a Financial Aid Assistant Responsible for overall fund management in the student aid programs; works closely with Financial Aid staff, VP of Enrollment Management, Student Accounts and Finance in this effort; responsible for taking a leadership role in directing the College’s financial aid policies and programs Partner with admissions personnel to meet enrollment goals and effectively serve incoming students and families as they navigate their financial decisions and obligations. Annually updates Policies and Procedures Manual, awarding philosophy, Student Consumer Information Bulletin, Net Price Calculator and other Financial Aid Office literature Responsible for filing all federal, state and college annual reports Determine eligibility and award various types of federal, state, institutional and outside aid in full compliance with all policies and regulations Primary contact and full-service counselor for a designated segment of the student population for all matters related to financial assistance and the payment of student accounts, including monthly payment plans Awards all tuition remission and Tuition Exchange payments Liaison to the Honors, Bonner and QLSP scholarship programs Participate in all Check-in and Admission Open House events as needed Process Professional Judgments Appeals Interface with lenders and other service vendors Point person for financial aid portion of the annual audit Provide superior customer service at all times Special projects and additional duties as assigned to enhance the level student financial services at Guilford College Education, Experience and Skills Required: Bachelor’s degree with five years of demonstrated successful administrative or supervisory experience in conducting financial aid programs is required. Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Proven customer service skills and enthusiasm for providing exceptional service to diverse populations. Sensitivity to the financial concerns and stresses of students and their families, along with an aptitude for explaining complex financial information in terms that are easily understood. Experienced in multi-tasking and details. Must be flexible and able to adapt to stressful circumstances and sometimes difficult customers. Able to work both independently and collaboratively. Working knowledge of federal and state regulations governing financial aid. Willing to be a part of a flexible work schedule that requires limited evening hours and occasional weekend duties. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
