    The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of Facilities and Services.     The Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of Facilities and Services has direct operational and administrative responsibility for supporting the academic mission of the campus through securing and maintaining the viability and integrity of the physical campus. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Operations, the Associate Vice Chancellor has overall responsibility for the unit’s budget, human resource management, and all other aspects of its operation. Ten reporting divisions include Capital Programs; Building Maintenance and Grounds, Customer Relations and Communications, Engineering and Construction Services; Human Resources, Diversity and Strategy, Safety and Compliance, Shared Administrative Services, Sustainability, Transportation and Building Services and Utilities and Energy Services and Services is the largest administrative unit on campus with a state and ICR budget of $85 million, a utilities enterprise and conservation budget of $93 million, and a staff of approximately 1,100. Facilities and Services supports a physical plant of more than 13 million net assignable square feet in 506 university district buildings covering 3.6 square miles.

    The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead a highly professional staff and understand the unique role that Facilities and Services plays in a complex and diverse university environment. The Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director collaborates with university leadership in developing a long-term strategic view of the physical environment of campus, including the campus master plan. Because the unit serves stakeholders across and beyond the university, it is essential that the successful candidate be a superior relationship builder who has personal resonance with the intellectual environment of a major research university, embodied in its faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, they must be a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, demonstrated by a successful record of implementation of and support for diversity and inclusion initiatives in workforce recruitment and retention, in vendor selection, and community engagement. Likewise, the Associate Vice Chancellor and Executive Director is expected to take a leading role in the university’s efforts to realize its ambitious goal to steward environmental resources in a sustainable manner. To accomplish the unit’s mission, the Associate Vice Chancellor works closely with the Associate Chancellor/Vice Provost for Finance, Budget and Capital Resources on budget-related decisions. For large capital delivery projects with a value of $250,000 or greater) the successful incumbent also works with the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and Assistant Vice President for Capital Programs and Utility Services at the University System.

    Founded in 1867, the University is one of the nation’s original 37 public land-grant institutions.  An internationally acclaimed comprehensive public research university, it is the largest university in the University of Illinois System and a member of the Big Ten, American Association of Universities and other notable peer organizations. Current student enrollment is diverse and dynamic with a total enrollment of nearly 55,600. The student body is composed of more than 35,120 undergraduates and approximately 20,476 graduate and professional students.  The university is a traditional residential campus with nearly 10,500 students living in campus facilities, while others live in private housing in close proximity. The University community also includes a diverse group of 12,000 faculty and staff.  The campus is located in central Illinois within the cities of Champaign and Urbana and works closely with public safety units to provide a safe environment for students, staff and visitors. 

    Requirements for the position include a bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree strongly preferred, preferably in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, planning, or business administration. A minimum of 10 years of experience in large, diversified, and complex college, university, or comparable organizations is required, with increasing responsibilities in the management of facilities and services; substantial college or university experience is preferred. Also required, a record of excellent communication, principled leadership, and personal integrity, as well as a history of advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and an enthusiastic commitment to supporting the research, teaching, and service missions of the university.

    This is a full-time, twelve-month academic professional position. Salary is open and is dependent on qualifications and experience.
