Job Summary:
The Office of the General Counsel at Bethune-Cookman University is conducting a search for an Associate General Counsel. This position will report to the General Counsel.
The Associate General Counsel will provide advice and counsel to the University’s senior leaders, schools and colleges, and administrative areas pertaining to a comprehensive and sophisticated range of legal issues. Key responsibilities will include providing legal counsel on matters including business, tax and corporate transactions; employment law and labor relations; negotiating and reviewing contracts; grants; liability, risk management and insurance matters; real estate transactions; laws pertaining to students; regulatory compliance; intellectual property; and general academic matters.
All lawyers in the General Counsel’s Office are expected to work collaboratively within the University community. They must manage a wide variety of complicated issues in a fast-paced higher education environment, exercise independent judgment and function effectively with internal and external audiences.

- A member in good standing with the Florida Bar, or have the ability to be admitted within twelve months of hire
Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:
- Prior in-house experience, particularly in higher education
- Experience with litigation and/or dispute resolution
- Significant experience with general business law and counseling
- An understanding of HBCUs
Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- A minimum of five years relevant legal practice experience in a high-quality and professional environment
