Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Directs and coordinates, either through subordinate supervisory personnel or directly, activities of employees in building maintenance inclusive of building trades, painting, plumbing, electrical, locksmiths, environmental systems, central heating and cooling and maintenance projects.
- Responsible for maintaining the campus grounds and buildings in a manner that presents a good first impression and that contributes to the retention of students, faculty, and staff.
- Establishes and implements training for employees and supervisory personnel.
- Responsible for project management within the FM Trades Shops, including budget and expenditure control.
- Responsible for operating within the approved budget.
- Follows and maintains proper accounting, procurement, and MSU Procedures.
- Studies and develops methods for improving trade operations and improving customer satisfaction.
- Communicates with and receives inquiries from the campus community regarding work requests, delays, repair, maintenance (deferred, preventative, and operating) and renovation projects.
- Establishes and maintains schedules, preventative and general maintenance programs.
- Monitors daily work order reports and ensures staff are being assigned to meet the maintenance and services needs of the campus in a timely manner.
- Works closely with trades shop supervisors and staff to ensure time and resources are being tracked consistently.
- Assists with training programs and employee development to improve work performance and safety practices.
- Assists the Business Office with ensuring maintenance contracts are meeting the desired needs for campus buildings, equipment, and grounds.
- Assists in preparation of job descriptions and performance appraisals for supervisory personnel.
- Assists in establishing departmental policies and procedures.
- Assists in the review and scheduling of routine maintenance of parking lots, streets and drainage ways.
- Serves in the absence of the Director of Facilities.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Facilities Management.
Minimum Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements
- Five years of progressive experience in supervision of university or public facilities maintenance or similar operations is required.
- Strong leadership and communication skills
Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred.
Physical Demands
- Works on feet for extended periods of time.
Work Hours
- Work 5 days per week and additional as required by the Director.
Minimum Salary $80,000 Maximum Salary $85,000
