Award winning Southern California homebuilder seeking Associate General Counsel to develop to take the leadership role in Department of Law and Risk Management. Position Summary : This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Company in law, risk management, environmental and regulatory compliance, corporate governance, real estate development and construction law, entity formation, and the development and maintenance of an effective and efficient risk management program. Hires and supervises all outside legal counsel and forensic consultants to be managed by business associates. Coordinates risk management and legal compliance issues between business teams and corporate functions. Assists business team management in the preparation of risk self-assessments and provides advice on legal compliance-related issues. Supervises and/or develops Law Department, Insurance and Risk Management staff members in their jobs and all operations associated with the acquisition and maintenance of insurance, subdivision bonds and other construction or development related surety bonds on behalf of company. Supports and/or develops business team training programs on legal matters, environmental and regulatory compliance and risk management issues. Retains primary responsibility for developing and implementing Company strategies regarding litigation and claims management. Manages all litigation and non-litigation claims tendered to insurance companies, and supervises outside counsel accordingly. Provides daily advice and assistance to Company management and associates to minimize and eliminate potential liability and risks. Job Requirements: * Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA accredited law school required; college degree required. * Active Member of California State Bar Association required. * 10 years of experience in real estate and development, land use, environmental, affordable housing, general contractor and corporate financing law preferred. * 5 years of related insurance and risk management experience required, including proven ability to market and negotiate insurance program and policies preferred. * Understanding of insurance products and services, specifically including General Liability, Builders Risk, Property and Casualty insurance coverage and exposures and understanding of insurance policies for general liability, property, builders risk, auto, workers compensation, directors and officers insurance, employers practice insurance, crime and fiduciary insurance, and pollution legal liability insurance. * 3 years of Construction Defect Insurance experience, including litigation, arbitration and mediation preferred. * Experience in land acquisition, construction and home building industry or multi-family housing and condominium developments highly desirable. * Experience in Brownfield redevelopment and environmental risk management highly desirable * Results driven, creative problem solver with project management expertise, excellent written/verbal communication and time management skills. * Must maintain strict confidentiality, have a strong work ethic and be loyal, trustworthy and honest. * Computer literate with high level capabilities and expertise in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook, required, with experience in JD Edwards and Power Point highly desirable.
