MaineHealth is seeking an Associate Chief Medical Officer & Senior Medical Director for Coastal Healthcare Alliance, a progressive, high-quality, health organization in Midcoast Maine consisting of Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital.
The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) and Senior Medical Director at Coastal Healthcare Alliance (CHA) has a primary reporting relationship to MaineHealth’s Coastal Region Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and works closely with CHA Medical Directors, MaineHealth Medical Group Senior Medical Directors, and MaineHealth Coastal Region CMOs. The ACMO will serve to carry out responsibilities as designated by the CMO which may include: regulatory affairs, accreditation, acquisition and development of physician resources via contractual agreements, strategic planning, quality oversight and initiatives, program development and implementation, and engagement of senior leadership for the achievement of institutional and program goals.
This role will offer approximately 75% protected administrative time. It is expected that this person’s remaining effort will be dedicated to clinical practice at Pen Bay Medical Center or Waldo County General Hospital.
Successful candidates will have:

Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine (MD, DO)

License or license eligible in the State of Maine

Board Certification

Acute care clinical experience

Minimum of 7 years of increasing responsibility as a physician leader

Institutional experience within a complex healthcare organization

Primary Job Functions:

Represents the CMO in any matter as requested
-
Assists and coordinates the development and ongoing implementation of effective quality assurance and patient safety plans to ensure high quality clinical practice and compliance with best practice guidelines and evidence-based medicine

Ensures timely and appropriate communication and effective input from the Medical Staff on health system decisions

Awareness of Medical Staff views and able to present and articulate them

Maintains effective communication and relationships with both health system and medical staff constituencies
-
Helps supports Medical Staff leaders, department chairs, and committee chairs in carrying out their functions effectively

Provides leadership and staff support for credentialing, privileging, and peer review activities

Attends appropriate Medical Staff committee meetings maximizing effectiveness of these committees toward performance improvement, high clinical quality, and compliance with appropriate rules, regulations and accreditation standards

Promotes compliance with Medical Staff code of conduct and assists Medical Staff president in building and maintaining successful physician related relationships throughout the system

Works closely with Medical Staff committees and Vice President for Nursing and Patient Care Services in risk management and utilization management to assure overall, safe, effective and efficient use of resources in the clinical setting

Provides primary supervision to the Community Health and Wellness Department

Helps draft interfacility and interdepartmental transfer agreements to promote high quality care

Assists CMO in quality work including attendance in RCAs and clinical care reviews as needed

Facilitates interface with other senior leaders in matters with shared goals

Assists in administrative oversight of accreditation and regulatory readiness for the institution within realm of regulatory affairs

Provides effective leadership and communication with senior management, clinical/academic departments, and regulatory agencies

Promotes strategic partnerships with physician entities such as the MaineHealth Medical Group

Collaborates with senior management in strategic financial and budgeting processes for physician contracts

Maintains integrity and equanimity in the management of sensitive issues
