Associate Medical Director supports the implementation of medical policies for the entire organization. Ensures the delivery of quality patient care. Being an Associate Medical Director researches and evaluates new treatments and medical innovations. Works collaboratively throughout the organization to ensure the adoption of standards and policies for all functional aspects of clinical services that result in patient care improvements. Additionally, Associate Medical Director requires a MD degree. Typically reports to Medical Director. The Associate Medical Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Associate Medical Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • SUMMARY: Squirrel Hill Health Center (SHHC), a dynamic and growing Federally Qualified Health Center, is hiring a full time Associate Medical Director (AMD). This position provides direct patient care and, under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), shares responsibility for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of clinical services.

    The AMD assists with establishing standards and treatment protocols, serves as a liaison to the members of the delivery system, maintains credentialing, and serves as an advisor on clinical issues. The AMD assists with the supervision of quality management, utilization management, and continuous quality improvement functions related to delivery of care and establishment of policy.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITES

    Clinical – 50%

    • Elicits and records information about patients medical history.
    • Examines patient to determine general physical condition.
    • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
    • Analyzes reports and findings of tests and of examination, and diagnoses condition.
    • Administers or prescribes treatments and medications.
    • Inoculates and vaccinates patients to immunize from communicable diseases.
    • Ensures that medical care is completely, accurately, and promptly documented in the Electronic Medical Record.
    • Performs minor surgery and other procedures commensurate with surgical competency and delineated privileges.
    • Makes house and emergency calls and/or staffs Mobile Medical Unit, to attend to patients unable to visit office or clinic.
    • Maintains staff privileges and affiliated coverage agreements with privileged physicians at UPMC hospitals or other hospital systems as determined by the SHHC Board of Directors, in order to provide continuing care to patients requiring inpatient care.
    • Takes rotating after hours call with other physicians as necessary.
    • Provides supervision of other clinical staff members, including RNs, LSCWs, dental staff members, and Medical Assistants, as needed and appropriate.
    • Prepares and signs all forms needed for patient care and billing within one working day.

    Administrative – 50%

    • In collaboration with the CMO, COO, and Director of Administrative Operations, ensures adequate provider staffing is available for all clinical sessions. Addresses site provider needs, assists with provider staffing plans, time off requests, and scheduling.
    • Participates in the credentialing and peer review process.
    • In collaboration with the leadership team and Director of Clinical Education, assists with provider training, coaching, and professional development plans.
    • Coordinates with CMO, COO, and Director of Clinical Operations on related clinical staffing needs such as nurses, medical assistants, and patient advocates.
    • Assists with monitoring provider productivity, quality of services, clinical operational flows and protocols. Assists with oversight and improvement of incentive programs.
    • Assures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and other accrediting or certifying organizations.
    • Assists with supervision of overall medical staff administration.
    • Assures the preparation of job descriptions, performance of duties, and evaluation of medical providers. 
    • Serves on various committees, task forces, and special project teams for the health center at the direction of the CMO.
    • Participates in Quality Committee, performs chart reviews, and implements process improvement programs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

    • A valid and unrestricted Pennsylvania Medical Board MD, DO, NP, or PA license.
    • Board certification in family practice or internal medicine, if applicable. 
    • Seven to ten years of clinical experience with a minimum of 2 years of qualifying supervision experience, in addition to at least 3 years of leadership experience in integrated care or community mental health. Familiarity with primary care, MAT, behavioral health, and dental environments are a plus.
    • Eligible to participate in Medicare and Medicaid programs.
    • Eligible for enrollment in required managed care and insurance contracts.
    • Current DEA registration and a minimum of a BLS certificate.
    • Competency in providing evaluation and treatment in ambulatory care and ability to perform clinical duties within established guidelines in an organized, efficient manner.
    • Understanding of current medical, educational, and psychosocial intervention procedures.
    • Experience in Federally Qualified Health Centers and/or NCQA recognized Patient Centered Medical Home is preferred.
    • Demonstrated high level of leadership skills to direct clinical staff functions with a proactive, results-oriented approach to management.
    • Ability to relate and interact effectively in sensitive and/or complex situations with a variety of people, expertise with multicultural populations.
    • Above average proficiency with ability to mentor others in the efficient use of electronic health record systems. Ability to complete and maintain electronic health records in accordance with policies and procedures.
