Associate Pastor assists the pastor in religious services and managing daily operations of an organization. Leads and implements outreach and educational programs and events that will maintain and grow membership. Being an Associate Pastor provides clerical support such as researching, selecting, and documenting passages or prayers to assist the pastor in planning and leading worship. Assists with administrative duties including managing calendars and schedules, preparing materials or educational documents, and communicating with volunteers. Additionally, Associate Pastor performs religious services and leads prayer. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a pastor. The Associate Pastor occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. In this position:
You will join us and help lead us as we pursue deeper relationships with God and with the people God brings into our lives. You and the Lead Pastor will work closely together, dividing responsibilities in many areas of the church. You will have an emphasis on youth and children’s programs, but both pastors will be involved in teaching and pastoring all generations.
In Discipleship You Will:
● Work with the Lead Pastor and the Christian Education (CE) committee to coordinate, promote, and further develop a quality Christian Education program for children and youth (preschool – 12th grade) including children’s Sunday school, Wednesday after-school program, Vacation Bible School, middle and high school youth groups, and seasonal/special events
● Lead the CE committee in planning for adult and youth Sunday School, including scheduling, purchasing or developing curriculum, and evaluating programming.
● Lead the High School or Middle School Youth group. Leadership of these groups will be divided between the associate and lead pastor.
● Participate in leading and growing our small group ministry.
● Connect with families to assist parents in equipping the next generation as disciples.
● Cultivate youth in church leadership
In Outreach and Missions You Will:
● Work with the Lead Pastor to facilitate church engagement with children and youth in the Marshalltown area through church supported activities and programs
● Coordinate with the Missions Committee to plan for and lead youth and intergenerational mission opportunities
In Worship You Will:
● Participate in weekly worship leadership by giving Children’s Sermons, reading liturgy, or leading music (preference will be given to those with musical talent).
● Preach approximately 6-12 times per year, as determined by skill and desire.
● Integrate children and youth in the life of the church and worship services.
Preferred Capabilities
Minimum of undergraduate degree in related field or three years of experience in ministry
