Position Summary
The Cancer Registrar will provide chart abstracting support for the cancer center registry according to the Commission on Cancer (STORES) and NJ State Cancer Registry/SEER Standards.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Ensure timely, accurate, and complete cancer data collection and maintenance on all types of cancer diagnosed and/or treated within our healthcare facility.
2. Read and interpret the various components of the medical record, such as pathology reports, radiology x-ray and scans, physical findings, and all treatment modalities, and use the information to correctly abstract and stage the cancer case.
Qualifications

60 college-level credits
Preferred:
Associates or higher degree in Cancer Registry Management, Health Information Management or related degree.
Minimum Years of Experience:

Minimum of five years abstracting experience

Certified tumor registrar
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
—Computer skills, composure under stress, honesty and integrity, detail-oriented; strong organization and communication skills; ability to work well independently.
—Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
Preferred:
ICD-9 and ICD-1O coding and TMN staging skills; knowledge of NJSCR/SEER reporting guidelines; knowledge of oncology terminology and treatment protocols.
