  • The Department of Biology and Microbiology at Northwestern State University of Louisiana seeks applications from enthusiastic individuals interested in a non-tenure or tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology or Instructor of Biology position beginning August 12, 2024. The applicant must have at least a Master of Science Degree in biology or a comparable degree in the Biomedical or Microbiology field. A Ph.D. is preferred. The successful candidate must teach some combination of undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in the areas of general biology and genetics to science and non-science majors. Preference will be given to applicants with prior college-level teaching and practical experiential learning knowledge. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.     • Shall be qualified to teach in the field of study.
    • Shall be effective in teaching the assigned subject material.
    • Shall meet the required standards defined by the University.
    • Shall be proficient in curriculum development, instruction, evaluation, and academic counseling.
    • For an Instructor, shall hold a minimum of a Master of Science degree in Biology or related field and at least 18 graduate hours in Biology.
    • For an Assistant/Associate Professor, shall hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree.
    • Be committed to excellence in teaching, service, professional growth, and scholarship.
    • Teach all courses in a manner that promotes academic excellence.
    • Submit course outlines and objectives.
    • Utilize a variety of proven teaching methods appropriate to pedagogy.
    • Evaluate students and report progress.
    • Participate in periodic review of course materials.
    • Maintain class schedules and the required 10 hours of office hours per week as determined by the Department Chair.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the goals and objectives of the College and University.
    • Serve as an advisor for students in the Department of Biology and Microbiology.
    • Participate in faculty meetings and serve on all appropriate programs and College of Arts and Sciences committees.
    • Maintain appropriate expertise and competencies through continued professional development.
    • Professionally represent the University in all activities and functions as determined by the President, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean, or Department Chair (e.g., commencement, faculty institute, registration, recruitment, and any called meetings).
    • Maintain confidentiality under federal laws and program policy.
