    Position Description

    Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
    The Director of Faculty Development will work with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to promote the success of Benerd College' students by working within and across Benerd College's various academic clusters to support the onboarding, training, and development of Benerd's degree-program faculty. Benerd College recognizes the central importance of students' classroom experiences. We seek a colleague equally committed to supporting positive classroom experiences for all-students through the intentional development of the faculty who support them. The Director will provide point-of-contact support for faculty (full- and part-time) and program-leads regarding pedagogical, instructional technology, and faculty-oriented policy. This is an 11 month non-tenure track position.

    Essential Functions
    • Supports the development, establishment, and evaluation of Benerd-wide teaching initiatives from an evidence-based teaching perspective.
    • Researches, develops, and provides centralized training and resources that support teaching initiatives, as well as rigorous, criterion-based tools for evaluating teaching.
    • Serves as point of contact for Benerd's academic leadership for pedagogical support in teaching and curricular development projects.
    • Analyzes academic programs, courses, and student and faculty input to make recommendations for program/course alignment, curriculum/course design, and instructional strategies, as requested by cluster within their discipline.
    • Provides actionable strategies, guiding frameworks, and ongoing support for best practices in teaching and curriculum/course design for in-person, online, and blended instruction.
    • Provides recommendations and guidance that is aligned with the priorities of faculty, programs, college, and the university, and is informed by pedagogical practices that are evidence-based and endorsed by the respective disciplines.
    • Conducts training needs assessments.
    • Designs and facilitates training sessions for faculty based on individual or group needs (i.e, Benerd-based seminar series, by-cluster trainings, online modules, workshops, and small group or individual consultations).
    • Plans, creates, and builds training content in the learning management system.
    • Researches, develops, distributes, and provides training for customized pedagogical resources that address identified needs.
    • Recommends and implements centralized college support strategies based on trends in pedagogical research.
    • Partners with University based instructional designers to align Benerd and university pedagogical support efforts, and facilitate the exchange of innovative ideas, research findings, and applications.
    • Designs, creates, and revises center instructional-support materials using multimedia authoring tools.
    • Develops written resources and learning media for the center website, training events, and newsletters.
    • Models and provides basic support for the use of the university-supported learning management systems, video conferencing platforms, and other university-supported e-learning tools as pedagogical tools.
    • Researches current trends, issues, and developments in instruction, program/course design, and innovative pedagogies.
    • Engages in professional development and conducts research, presents, or publishes on innovative faculty development, instructional, and program/course design practices (with faculty and/or student partners whenever possible).
    • Develop, implement, revise, and oversee faculty onboarding protocols in partnership with cluster, College, and University departments.
    • Participate in cluster, College, and University-wide DEI activities to promote the success of all Benerd College faculty.
    • Support the development of pedagogically innovative curriculum and student-centric policies by serving as ex-officio member on Benerd College's Curriculum Committee, and others as deemed appropriate.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Master's degree in education, instructional design, or related field.
    • Three (3) years previous experience teaching in higher education as faculty or instructor (teaching as graduate student would not satisfy).
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse, inclusive educational environment
    • Experience in leading pedagogical training for faculty, including group trainings and individual consultations on program/course design and instructional practices
    • Demonstrated competency in faculty development strategies, verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills, and client service skills
    • Demonstrated expertise in inclusive course design and instructional practices
    • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a highly competent team
    • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback effectively, and respond to feedback productively
    • Ability to manage workload of multiple concurrent projects
    • Outstanding organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail
    • Ability to produce high quality work with quick turnaround times
    • Competency with LMSs (i.e., Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard,), and video conferencing platforms (i.e., Zoom)
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Doctoral degree in education, instructional design, or related field.
    • Five (5) years previous experience teaching in higher education as faculty or instructor (teaching as graduate student would not satisfy).
    • Experience in leading faculty development training, either within specific pedagogical unit or a Center for Teaching and Learning
    • Demonstrated ability to motivate change in higher education faculty
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team under deadlines
    • Ability to problem solve, think critically, and make sound judgments
    • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and environment
    • Demonstrated ability to create productive partnerships with other campus service offices to amplify impact of services provided to the campus community
    • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with cluster, College, and University leaders and faculty champions to create a network of support
    • Knowledge of educational technologies often used in higher education settings
    • Demonstrated expertise in, pedagogy/andragogy, faculty development and training in higher education, instructional design in higher education, and/or on ground and online instruction in higher education
    • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
    • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
    • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

    Hiring Range $64,480 - $75,000 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
