About the Role
The Chemist I position will perform general laboratory chemical, microbiological, and analytical experimentation to support Clean Chemistry’s water treatment activities in a variety of industries. Responsibilities include characterization and analysis of water samples and pulp samples with a variety of analytical methods, treating water samples in laboratory bottle tests, general microbiology testing, pulp “bag bleaching” experiments, data analysis and documentation.
Responsibilities
Analytical characterization of water samples including pH, ORP, conductivity, titration methods, colorimetric test methods, general biological enumeration methods, etc.

Perform laboratory bench-scale water treatment and pulp bleaching experiments.

Evaluate test results to specify treatment process requirements and document findings.

Assist with preparing reports.

Assist in the design of experiments.

Maintain a clean and safe laboratory workspace.

Communicate with lab manager, senior staff, and sales representatives.

Assist with maintaining lab supplies.

Work independently on a day-to-day basis.

Become part of the Clean Chemistry team and contribute wherever necessary to achieve success.
Requirements
0-2 years general laboratory experience, water treatment laboratory experience preferred.

BS degree in chemistry (or other physical science) with a focus on laboratory analysis.

Familiar with water analytical laboratory methods including jar testing methods.

Knowledgeable in different water treatment technologies.

Familiar with microorganism testing methods including serial dilution and ATP.

Able to follow and write standard operating procedures.

Highly self-motivated.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills to engage and develop good working relationships with colleagues and operations staff.

Additional Requirements
Must be able to follow all safety procedures and policies.

Must be able to perform occasional lifting (up to 40 lbs).

Must have familiarity with common computer programs (eg. Excel, Word, Google Drive experience).

Must be comfortable working with chemicals, including hazmat materials.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Able to frequently bend, twist and stand.
